  1. Dear god, this feels like the x-box :D Well, better than the prelims.
  2. I am a big fan of the Random Extra Traps mod. I'd like to see a similar mod, that adds mines to the Wasteland that go all the way to make that horryfying beep-beep-beep - but won't go off. Consider them dummies or just broken. WHY PUT SOMETHING LIKE THIS INGAME? Because with experience, that a mine doesn't go off, ALL mines become much scarier. What happens to you in vanilla, when you approach a mine? You are afraid you might not be able to stop it from going off. Now add to this the experience, that sometimes they won't go off at all, what does this do to you? Well you're actually hoping for it. It's very simple psychology - with hope comes fear! There will be TWO fears now, where before there was only one: 1) I might not be quick or able enough to disarm that mine (Vanilla) 2) Holy s***, i hope that mine is broken, but what if not ...?!? Fear is a funny thing. It's afraid of result, yes, but the more reasons there are to get that result, the more affraid you have to be. Fake mines are that reason. The hope doesn't weight as much as the fear, your hopes might not come through. As you see, though the mod would add fake mines, it's not these fake mines that this mod is about, but the danger of mines.
  3. It would be great if i could migrate my upload packages from one of my fallout3nexus upload sites to another of my fallout3nexus upload sites. Reuploading stuff only to reorganize already uploaded material would be unnecessary.
  4. I will provide you with UNRELEASED original Soundeffects from TOS, TNG Series and the Movies (Weapons, Gadgets, Environmental Sound Design of diverse Ships etc.). A guy over at Paramount is opening the studios archives, he's very generous. I am quiet good at sound editing so i clear the stuff up a bit. I will give you both the raw and my enhanced versions. Give me a month or so.
  5. Hi there, Please give input if you wanna team up or would like to play such a mod: i have become quiet a good sound editor over the years here at Nexus. I recently edited one of the female player voices (breathing) to sound like wearing a Radiation Suit Helmet. I managed to make it sound exactly like heard in the end of the movie ALIEN ("... Lucky, lucky, lucky ...") :D It's like breathing within a box with some slight effects from the breathing apparatus. To me, it gives a somewhat trapped feeling, a bit claustophobic - just imagine exploring the Flooded Metro with this sound! I am looking for a modder who would write the esp. Various Suits and Power Armors, when worn, should let the game run a different kind of tweaked voice sets. The mod should be compatible with the mod Helmet POV. We extend this idea to slightly different voices/breathing when wearing light or heavy armors. And as we are at it, i would like to create a set of player voices to make him sound like a ghoul, should one choose to play as one in FWE. I of course would sound edit the voices, you could check them out if you like and if we both agree they are good, we go with it. It shouldn't take me more than two days to create a voice set for each suit. again, please give input if you wanna team up or would like to play such a mod THX Olaf

This IS new terrain for me as i'm no technican but just a screenwriter-yet-not-in-hollywood :P What writers are good at though is RESEARCH and today ... well, i got a new graphics card, need more power now and was trying to figure out which PSU (Power Supply) to get. And which one could be any good. I found out that silver certificates are in some cases merely downgraded-not-as-good gold PSUs and i found out that all XFX Power Supplies are made by top notch Seasonic. All of a sudden i found myself in a jungle of fake labels, some to my advantage, most not. Enough blah, blah. The PSU you have has a so-called UL-Number. It's an industry standard registration number with some US goverment office, i won't bore you with the details. Lock at the pic below, to see how to find an UL-Number on an PSU. http://media.bestofmicro.com/ul-number,0-K-255332-13.png Now the following govermental site you can search for the manufacturer who is behind this number. Scroll down the page until you find "BEGIN BASIC SEARCH". Than put your UL-Number into the field "UL-File Number". HIT the search button. ONLINE CERTIFICATION DIRECTORY: http://database.ul.com/cgi-bin/XYV/template/LISEXT/1FRAME/index.html If the UL-Number can't be found, it is a FAKE. I would say, the PSU you've choosen is already not worth your trust. The same is true if you can't find that number on an PSU! So now you know the manufacturer. How is that any help? You need not learn german just read the manufacturers names on the last part of that site. Since i don't want to get into any trouble (Brands are mean an POWERful, LOL) i hope you feel at least encouraged and don't get something what we in Germany refer to as "China-Boellers" (China-manufactured Power-Supplies-which-will-give-you-impressive-graphic-explosions-on-and-of- -the-screen.)   7. Also, if it is an performance issue, get your hands on a savegame located in point lookout. Load it. Now load your own savegame and try getting to Point Lookout again. Since the Point Lookout files are already in the buffer the game should have an easier time loading them. Using the apropiate ingame-location savegames is how i fixed the issue of crashes at the Jefferson Memorial and Rivet City, without needing a mod.
  8. Also, you might have a simple PERFORMANCE issue. The original Fallout music is encoded with the following qualities; i show you below the list how to change your tracks to those: Public, Explore, Dungeon: @224kbs Battle: @192kbs Base: @320kbs As you can see, performance is an issue with music or Bethesda would not have settled for the low quality in battle music. Okay, here how to change your mp3s. You need a music converter software. The best one out there is "switch". Get the demo and install it. Use the trial time or simply unistall the program right ahead. Upon unistalling switch offers you to downgrade to a FREE version (now how great is that!!!!). The free version is totally sufficient. Drag and drop the music that is supposed to have the same "@ kbs" into switch. Choose "mp3" as the target format. In the lower left corner of the programm you can open something like converting options. In that window unclheck "variable bitrate" and take stero or joint stereo and chosse the correct kbs (224 or 192 or 320). In the main window choose an extraction folder. Hit convert. Switch will now convert and create NEW tracks in mp3 and the right kbs-stereo-mp3-format. Now they are ready to be used with fallout3. Again, let me stress that switch is simply the best high-quality program out there and you should'nt go with any other. In my own music conversion "On The Edge Of Your Nerves" my explore, dungeon and public music comes in @256kbs. The quality is better and the game can still handle it on most computers. Dont try this with the battle music!   9. open the console with "^" click on your character in 3rd person and type "kill". The save will reload and you will be able to save again, which was not possible before. Here is the drawback: You must do this each time after starting NV fresh (from your desktop). Also long as the game is running you need to do it only once. I have a theory about whats happening: Your animations are stuck. Killing your character makes the game enigne reload all animation data fresh. The savegame data is conflict with the game engine data. Animations are not stored in savegames, true, but SOMETHING in the savegame, something very obscure to me, messes arround with how the engine HANDLES animations. I found out about this in a funny way: I loaded a save, but if i saved a game, my game crashed. After restart i forgot the save was "faulty" and loaded it again. I got blown up in an explosion and the save normally autoloaded again. I walked arround a bit and saved. It worked. Then it hit me it the game should have crashed! After much trial and error i blew myself up with a frag. The save re-autoloaded again and i saved succesfully. Blowing yourself up has the same effect as typing "kill": Animations get complete reloaded. Lucky, huh?
  10. Hi folks i want to buy a new graphics card. I play at a resolution of 1920x1080 At first i opted for the new 6950 or even 6970, but now i am not sure anymore. It's shaders. I just loooooooove Eve and my HD4770 pcs+ is doing wonders with it. However it's not enough to use the best NMC texture pack has to offer. I figure, i need much Ram for this and the HD6970 has more than the 6950. As i see it, the HD 5870 pcs+ (Powercolor/Tul) comes with the best possible shader handling: HD 5870 1600(20/80 HD 6970 1536/24/96 And these are only the numbers. The whole archtitecture is different, or shall i say, weaker on the newer card, at least on my resolution (see above). I looked at Nvidia too, but FO3-Benchmarks always bring me back to AMD, at least with Bethesda games. I am not interested in how my card will hold in the future. I just want the best Fallout 3 and NV experience i can possibly have (i am hardly interested in an other games). So whats your stance on this? Please help :)

  13. Today, when i used VATS i closed in on an enemy that was kneeling. Then it hit me! What if VATS didn't!? Here's the logic behind it; i think one would need FOSE to do it: 1) Upon entering VATS or when hitting the left or right arrow button to close in on a target, there is 2) a check: If the NPCs sneak skill is higher than the Players Weapon skill the enemie will be skipped instead of VATS closing in on him. You might see him "rushing by" visually, which is already a hughe advantage, considering you might not have seen then enemy outside VATS at all. 3) Perception should factor into the equation, following the logic of the red dots marking enemies on your hud. Which makes me think, the red dots TOO might only show up, if your perception outweights the enemies sneak skill. 4) I am pretty sure, NPCs don't have the sneak skill assigned to them. I never worked with the Geck, but i figure, groups and levels of NPCs are assigned all kinds of skills, one just would need to assign a sneak mechanic to them too. I would love to hear your responses, PMs are also okay. Olaf
  14. I am the modder of "On The Edge Of Your Nerves" and "Prewar Classics ... for your Radio" (among other sound editing) mods. I now noticed that the smaller the uploaded packages size, the more instant downloads i get. This rather fruststrating, because the bigger package, the more content i provide and the more work i had on editing and research. I wonder now, if people would prefer smaller packages (e.g. 2 times 50mb instead of one 100mb), or perhaps even smaller. Of course this question wouldn't only convern my own mods. So whats you're take on this, as someone downloading? --- THX for the replies so far, keep it coming :)

  17. Welcome to the Wasteland :) A little tip: Don't enter the Dunwich Building before you're hinted to it by/in (DLC) Point Lookout. No harm if do, though. But a little more fun if you don't.

I am the modder of http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9814 Hardware solutions: - The best solution would be not to rely on an mainboard sound device (onboard) but have a good sound card installed. - Have as much RAM as possible. If you are using an AMD Phenom system use DDR2 1066 (if possible). With Phenom the timings (those e.g. 5-5-5-12 numbers) are less important than choosing DDR2 1066 over DDR2 800. SOFTWARE SIDE OF RAM: Get 3GB enabler on Nexus. Even if you have less than 3 GB installed Fallout3 will profit from the changes and run more smoothly! - If you have an ATI card but don't use your monitors speakers turn of the ATI (HDMI) audio device. You will get a better performance overall (about 2%) QUALITY SOLUTIONS Your mp3 must be of a certain quality to be played correctly. You can try running the mp3 even on a lower quality, but i haven't tried that myself: The maintitle is the only mp3 that runs with the standard @320 Explore, Dungeon and Public music run @256 Battle music runs at @192 To convert your music to a lower quality get the DEMO of the software SWITCH. You can downgrade that DEMO to a free version of the software and still have all the features you need. It's the best audio converter out there. OTHER CONSIDERATIONS Have short filenames for your mp3s. Don't use numbers above 9. If you have ten tracks or more rename those to 9b etc. The game engine plays mp3s with a "1" in it more often than others if you have tracks named 10, 11, 111, etc. INGAME SOLUTION To turn off the stutter of music, in your pipboy turn on a radio station, than turn it off again. The problem might occur later on but for the moment a new music (explore etc) track will be started flawlessly. I hope i helped.

  20. Never shy to do some self-advertising: Check out my ongoing Fallout3 Music Conversion. Each (Update) Package adds new content only meaning you need each Package to get EVERY track. Go at least for the Mainpackage and first Update Package. The Point Lookout Editions are meant for standalone usage (as will be later installments, e.g. for Motherhship Zeta): Ah, and don't just get the Rileys Rangers Special first, just only because it's the smallest, you would get a wrong impression of the overall musical design (which in Riley's is to lift your spirits instead of adding to danger and exploration)!   22. Preferring the DC Wasteland over the Fallout New Vegas i would like us to discuss, where the next Fallout 4 should take place. Our collected suggestions we could send over to Bethesda, perhaps they are even watching Fallout3nexus forums. The fun, believability and variety of the DC Area can hardly be rivaled but i think Bethesda should at least try. I think best if we describe WHY we like the DC TERRAIN(!) so much. You should then suggest another area and describe why (still) meets your needs. The location should be most probably be in the US because thats Bethesdas biggest market. Bethesda probably has already started on FO4. So what? Perhaps our suggestions will encourage an FO4 dlc like The Pitt (only bigger :P) Here's my first suggestion: A VACTION SPOT AREA like it is Hawai. Also Miami and other places come to mind. Still the area should provide opportunity to show off the broken down traffic infrastructure, military installations and industry. But why a Vacation Spot? Good living, enjoyment, fun, beaches, Hotels, Swimming Pools - all promises of a good life. It makes also a great place for at lot of 1950s-like references. Now imagine that being bombed, irradiated, erroded. It would be a great counterpoint. Where DC partly shows the remnants of a society at it peak on a governmental and industrial level and level of traffic infrastructure, the broken down recreational "facilities" would so the same thing on a level where "the good life" is most refined. Now we have that in part with NV's Vegas, but Vegas is a too specific a place, to be taken as an general expression of "the good life". Vegas is to single minded so to say. Vegas can't reflect what other vactions spots can reflect (Thats not to say Vegas is not an interristing place) . Also choosing a vacation spot (especially for bathing in the sun) will give the opportunity of showing off another side of the 1950s and that is it sense of exotism. Just look at 1950s pics or listen 1950s music like from Les Baxter and you'll know what i mean. What is your suggestion?
