CTDs (often during loading screen) - Who can help?

Hi there,

I have installed complete STEP Project mods and added some I found (mainly mods of GEMS), all my mods are cleaned, I did use boss to sort load order.

Game now really is great but these random CTDs I keep getting annoy me. Big time.

They are very often when I change region, like entering a cave, a bar, a city. Apart from that they appear to be kinda random.

So the basic mods from STEP cannot be causing CTDs (except I have some kind of incompatibility I havent seen yet (right?)) so the non-step mods should be the ones of interest (if not mistaken):

  Reveal hidden contents

+ ALL Step mods.

Hardware:

  Reveal hidden contents

I especially dont see any connection between random CTDs that happen more often during loading screen and region change and the new installed mods.

Maybe someone here can help me : /

Greetz

I would have been better to post your BOSS log, instead of what you have done.

Whenever I had the infinite loading screen/CTD, it was either because of too many high res textures, or because I forgot/didn't know about a necessary patch for a couple of mods. Generally, there's too much going on for your system to handle, although missing patches/conflicts may be a factor.

Well okay so CTDs might be because I misunderstand what can cause em. Do you have maybe special advice about particular mods I should consider deinstalling?

Here is what boss says:

Recognized plugins:

  Reveal hidden contents

Unrecognized:

  Reveal hidden contents

I have read several times that papyrus log usually (or actually never) shows what causes CTDs but nonetheless if false:

  Reveal hidden contents

Thanks already

I only use a fraction of the mods you have, but let's see if there is any help I can give. =D

High Res Texture Pack DLC - I've read that these can cause a lot of headaches for people. Deactivate and see if that helps?

SneakTools - Already incorporated into SkyRe. Remove these .esps, and check the SkyRe guide to see if any other mods you have are already in it.

UFO - Not very friendly with 'unique' companion mods, like Hoth, Atvir and Vilja. You may wish to uninstall this and replace with something like Amazing Follower Tweaks.

Do you run the ReProccer patcher and bashed patch every time you update your mod list? May be advisable. I had a couple of CTDs a while ago, then redid the ReProccer patcher as an attempt to fix it, and I didn't have CTDs after.

I'll assume you moved the unrecognised files back up into your load order. =3

You seem to have a lot of mods that add more NPCs and creatures. You may wish to scale back on these, as they can be quite a drain on your system/Skyrim's engine.

Can also be you've edited your Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini which cause your system (well, most likely the Skyrim engine) to overload.... specifically uGridsToLoad can cripple stuff.... but a few other settings can be very taxing as well... maybe you can post your ini files?

Some of your load screen issues have also been linked to 'A Quality World Map - With Roads' which is part of STEP/GEMS. See if uninstalling it helps... It's not in your load order list, because it doesnt have a plugin. It seems to be very heavy for some reason which puzzles me.

There's also a lot of reports where load screen hangs when there is an Autosave point on the other side. The workaround seems to be to disable Autosave completely and use manual save instead, tho this can be tricky if you forget to save after a good play  but worth a shot I suppose.

This actually worked already for a cave where I encountered a reproducable CTD! Works, yes!

I didnt touch ugrids because I was afraid of too unstable game.

Skyrim.ini

  Reveal hidden contents

Skyrimprefs.ini

  Reveal hidden contents

Yes I manually sorted the unrecognized ones. Every time I change anything mod related I rerun SUM (and so all SkyProc Patches with it, including ReProccer). I'm not using any bashed patch, because I could not find out if I actually need one and which mods rely on "levelled lists" (and what these actually are).

Nevertheless WryeBash is the mod manager I use.

Gonna try out your other recommendations, already some stuff to do and look into for me. Big thanks.

Greetings

Edit: If this issue is solved, I will edit my post and tell you guys what helped in the end of course. Just wanted to add this.

Yea your ini files look great...

Btw... you can also have Load screen hanging due to too many (too high res) texture packs... if you use Skyrim HD (or any other) and use something like 4K version (Skyrim HD FULL) see if switching to Lite or 2K versions helps. Almost no difference in looks but 4K = 4x heavier than 2K verions, or in more understandable terms... 4096x4096 is 64x more detailed than vanilla's 512x512 version (so yea, heavy duty)

Alright, thanks really. I appreciate it really really big time, especially that you even take the time to explain stuff.

And well, posting my ini files already made me aware I forgot to add the lines from Skyrims Flora Overhaul. So I´m already on the winnin side, eh?

See you in a couple of hours or days.

Till then

No problem... I might not be on the forums end next week + weekend, have to do some business travel. Send me a PM if you do require some input or have a question unanswered... I'd be glad to help when I can.

yes as mentioned most of the time freezing during loads is because of insufficient V ram.

first step to do is to easy up on your texture load or increase your virtual memory page file.

besides texture mods you also got some population mods that can be pretty load heavy such as Lively inns and taverns and Populated Cities.

and climiates of tamriel + realistic Lighting Overhaul,, hm im not to sure about that combo.

i would pick one or the other, running both sounds a bit heavy to me.

on another note (and this has nothing to do whit your freezing)

i spotted skyre+sneaktools.

you can disable sneaktools, its already included in Skyre.
