7 Days to Die and Vortex Mod Manager

I'm working with a friend to use mods in 7 Days to Die. We started with running into an issue was the game couldn't find a specific file when loading into my game with me despite having downloaded and installed all the same mods. After trying a few things and looking up forums with help information, we found that her Vortex doesn't even give the option for hardlink, just symlink. We tried one of the forum options to disable certain mod types and restarting vortex only to run into the same issue.

I figure if I'm running into these issues with her, I'll run into the same with another friend I'm getting into modding for the same game.

To answer your question, the mods once installed/enabled through vortex populate in the game's directory Steam\steamapps\common\7 Days To Die\Mods. When she downloads these mods and enables them, they don't appear anywhere in the above directory. The game still checks for those files though, which keeps her from being able to jump into my modded games (yes, we are using the same mods and nothing more). She received an error for a missing file (which actually was in the mod package she downloaded) when she tried to join my game. This is what caused us to look further into what was going on. I have another friend who has no issues, it just seems to be her so far.

She downloads the mods, those that will download directly through the client do, others she is able to download then drag and drop into Vortex. The issue occurs when installing the mods. She clicks to install the mods/enable the mods yet none of the mod files populate in the games directory where they should. As I mentioned before, we thought this may be an issue of hardlink v. symlink, since her Vortex manager doesn't even provide an option for hardlink. The only option that appears in that drop down is symlink. We've tried having her delete the version she has, re-download and re-install. Nothing changes. We followed the instructions on previous threads disabling mod types and restarting, but nothing changes. We checked versions, but we're running the same v1.4.12, yet I have the option to set either Symlink, Hardlink, or Move Deployment.

After she Enables the mods, does she DEPLOY them?

Unless there's a way to manually deploy these mods, she can't. Mine automatically deploys each installed and enabled mod.

Like I've mentioned before, her deployment method is symlink, which is the only method offered to her for some reason.

So that button I posted in the screenshot above, with the red square around it to highlight the DEPLOY button, doesn't exist in Vortex when managing 7 Days to Die?

Why do you, and your friend compare your Vortex settings and find out which settings the two of you have that differ in that she can't get her mods to work?

If she's not getting the option for Hardlink then she doesn't have her mod staging folder on the same drive as the Game
