GruppaA
I'm just returning to have a gaming pc in 8-9 months. I installed vortex, installed fo4edit. But when I launch fo4edit, it doesn't see any mods installed. this is my fo4 directory D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Fallout 4 and its where I put the fo4edit. What am I doing wrong? ginkarasu
If you installed mods with MO2 you need to add, F04edit to the executable list, and start fo4edit through Mo2. If you're using another mod manager I can't help you.

FO4Edit is looking for plugins.txt, which Vortex moves to a different directory in order to support multiple profiles.

GruppaA
I'm obviously an idiot, being out of the gaming world for 8+ months, and all of a sudden nothing works the way it used to. Okay, what do you people use to check your mod load order? I use vortex to install my mods.

Okay, what do you people use to check your mod load order? I use vortex to install my mods. If by "mod load order" you mean "plugin load order," then you use Vortex (with integrated LOOT) to sort that order. The results are displayed on the Vortex plugins page. Before sorting, make sure that all plugins are enabled and deployed.

aurreth
Vortex has LOOT built in, you don't need a separate version of it. BUT, if you do install it, again you need to launch it through the Vortex Dashboard. Okay, basics. When you install a mod using Vortex it doesn't install those mods to the FO4 directory. They are stored in a folder in your %APPDATA% directory (which is normally hidden from the user). Doing this allows Vortex to have multiple profiles, which are basically sets of mods. Different profiles can have different mod lists. This means that the game's plugins.txt and loadorder.txt are not where a vanilla install of FO4Edit or LOOT expect to find them. What you are seeing is what happens when the vanilla txt files are used. You need to go to the Vortex Dashboard page. The main box there, the one with the game picture, has a button to Add Tool. Click on that, pick New, and use the window that pops up to add FO4Edit. Then use the Dashboard to launch the editor. Do the same for other tools, Bodyslide, LOOT, CK, etc. You use Vortex, you need to launch everything through Vortex. And stop thinking you need to personally manage your load order. Vortex does the majority of that for you, and in general does a decent job. It also makes user load order management difficult, with a steep learning curve on how to manipulate the load order yourself. On the rare occasion where you need to fix something yourself you'll use the Plugin page to add rules about "pluginA must load after pluginB". Going beyond that is possible, but rarely necessary.
