JayRad11
Alright so I've really screwed myself here...I decided to do another playthrough of Fallout 3, but this time around with some mods to make the experience better. After making lots of progress with the 11 mods I had loaded, I decided to modify the Fallout.ini to increase view distances. After doing so, the game ran for about an hour and then crashed. I decided to take the original Fallout.ini that I had backed up prior to the .INI modifications, but when I restarted fallout 3 with it and tried to load any number of save points, the game would crash after a minute or less. (Not something that ever happened prior to the .ini modification)I decided to back up all of my saves, mods, etc, and then uninstall Fallout from steam. I then reinstalled the game, reinstalled the mods from vortex and try again. Now the save games load up, but none of the mods are present in the game, even though Vortex shows them as "11 mods active."Have I messed something up with the staging folder? Does it need to be in the EXACT same file location as it was when the game ran fine with mods? I'm at my wits end :(Thanks for any help.Jay

Jay It looks like you didn't PURGE the mods before Uninstalling the Game, now Vortex is convinced the mods are still installed, with Orphaned Hardlinks. ALWAYS, always PURGE mods in Vortex before Uninstalling the game, otherwise you leave all the hardlinks orphaned

HadToRegister
Thanks for that information man. I really really appreciate it. This is the first time I ever used Vortex outside of FOMM YEARS ago. Is there anything I can do to relink the old files to the new installation? Or a way to reload the mods fresh to the save file? Appreciate it bro, All of the Installed Mod info sits in the C:\users\YOUR NAME\appdata\roaming\Vortex -or- C:\users\YOUR NAME\appdata\roaming\BlackTreeGaming\Vortex First make sure the mods aren't showing up in the Game\Data folder, because uninstalling the game without purging the mods, severs the hardlinks and can create a physical copy in the Game Data folder. Try hitting PURGE in Vortex and see (If the mods show up in the Data folder) if they disappear when you hit PURGE, if they don't, then Vortex thinks they're still installed, and you need to delete the Folder I mentioned previously, and reinstall Vortex. Also, if the mods are in your Game Data folder then you'll have to uninstall the game, and manually delete the game folder, and reinstall, in order to get rid of any mod hardlink that was converted to a physical file, plus it's just better to make sure everything is wipedThen reinstall the game, and start over. And if you ever want to uninstall the game, but "Hibernate" your mods, then just PURGE them first, THEN uninstall the game, because afterwards, if you reinstall, you'll be able to just hit DEPLOY and restore the Hardlink to your mods (Provided you installed the game to the same place that Vortex expects it to be I did this with an installation of Fallout 3 on Steam, I installed a bunch of mods, but Fallout 3 wouldn't start, so I PURGED my Steam Fallout 3 mods, uninstalled Fallout 3, installed the GOD version of Fallout 3, told Vortex where to find GOG Fallout 3, and then hit DEPLOY and Vortex and GOG Fallout 3 picked up, right where I left off, as if nothing had changed.
