First time playing Skyrim on PC, need mods

I have been playing on the 360 since launch, and I finally got a PC that will run Skyrim on high so I am pretty excited about playing with mods. However, I am overwhelmed with trying to find the right ones. I only have a couple hours a week to play right now, so I would rather spend that time playing and not testing mods only.

I want to start off small. I would like to just get mods for bodies, hair, faces, etc. Nothing game changing yet. After that I will look deeper into more serious mods. So what do you guys recommend for the appearance?

Immersive Armors and Immersive Weapons are two excellent mods.

I recommend one of the Alternate Start mods since you played before.

A "must have" mod for me is Skyrim Cannabis Mod.

Edit; Sorry these are not for appearance, but these are what i use and never uninstall, and i thought id recommend anyway since they are not game changing. :biggrin:

@guarfighter

I recommend getting skse and skyui. Its a very good mod for inventory and favorites menu overhaul.

Also hialgoboost. Read the installation: it's not through nmm. Performance booster if you get more mods. You can prolly put higher graphics settings on your pc afterwords without lag.

Skyrim configurator, for configuring skyrim without a launcher(and more detailed changes)

Mod Organizer is your friend. It is better than NMM in every way. Allowing you to install mods without actually putting them in your Skyrim directory, so if you screw up, nothing really happens. Plus, you can have multiple setups. So I, for example, have a setup for all out combat, a vanilla playthrough with super sexy graphics, a playthrough with a million custom followers and matching outfits and weapons, and my most recent playthrough which is meant solely to test new mods and their impact on the stability of my game. All the while, nothing is keeping me from playing the vanillla game at any moment.

Besides that, try SkyRe or Requiem and go from there. SkyRe is like Vanilla+, and Requiem makes it feel like Skyrim...Baldur's Gate or something. Much harsher game where things are taken to extremes when it comes to the lore.

Cheers.

@trisamid

I haven't used MO: but your statements are misleading. If you screw up your save game, it screws up, and usually cause of mods(doesnt matter what "setup" you have, scripts could still stay in game even after uninstallation.) either way, multiple save game profiles are awesome and just on that I would recommend it.

I would also recommend skyre. It's ridiculously good for the better vanilla experience. Requiem for the hardcore game experience I guess.

Interesting NPCs is hands down my #1 must-have mod for every playthrough of Skyrim. It adds tons of fully-voiced, truly unique new characters to the game, and they all blend in seamlessly. Really adds a lot to the experience.

I've recently been involved with doing some voiceovers for a similar mod, Inconsequential NPCs, which similarly adds a number of new NPCs to the game. This mod differs from Inconsequential NPCs in that the characters added either don't really care about the Dragonborn or interact with him, and aren't even named. They range from foreign envoys to carriage guards, 'urchins' (children who pickpocket), etcetera. It's another mod that adds a lot to the experience of the game, imo. :)

Some others to look into include Climates of Tamriel, BLEED (dynamic blood mod), varied guards and stormcloaks, Ethereal Elven Overhaul, all the unofficial patches for Skyrim and the DLC, Dead Body Collision fix, Footprints, Wet and Cold, Frostfall, SkyUI, WATER - Water And Terrain Enhancement Redux, SkyAI...those are all great mods for starting out. :D
