Really Deleted? Or Just Archived?

Hi. I wrote to DarthDoodar about this, and got no response, so I'm hoping someone here can answer.

I submitted an official request for file deletion a bit over a week ago, and the mods in question had their titles changed to include the word "DELETED" in them.

I then got a series of notifications, one for each file in the mods, saying something like this:

"A moderator (DarthDoodar) archived GruffyddSandP4.02 version 4.02 in Gruffydd's Signs and Posters - DELETED"

Screenshot:

I'm just wondering why all of the files are listed in the notifications as being archived instead of being deleted.

Are my files actually archived now somewhere on NexusMods, or were they really deleted as promised? And if they were deleted, why was I notified that they were all archived?

Thanks in advance for any response.

If I recall correctly from another topic, files get archived ASAP and the deletion is then done manually afterwards.

Okay that makes sense, especially if they don't have an automated function for it. Weird that they don't send a confirmation when the deletion is completed though.

weird is that it needs to be archived first ...before being deleted (presumably from the archive), but then this whole process makes zero sense to me on any level.

Why would that be weird?

Someone requests deletion, but you don't have an automated process for that in place. So what you do to comply to the request immediately is removing public access to the object in question as best as you can. Once that is fine, you can plan the actual deletion.

It's a common practice across any platform that holds objects that may be subject to deletion, first you block public access then you take care of the rest.

Source: I'm working for a company that builds CRM systems for large companies, so the object in question usually is user/customer data and subject to the GDPR without any court ruling, so a tad more urgent than mod files, which may or may be not subject to that.

archiving - in its truest sense doesnt affect public access - it simply archives. it is a backup/restore function.

blocking public access <> archiving. thats a data access/security function.

they are not the same. hence my wondering why it needs to be archived before being deleted.

however, it may be that in the nexusmods nomenclature "archiving" may be a process which moves a mod and its contents out of the process that serves various download nodes, then it can be deleted once without having to delete from more than one download location - just a guess.

So, just out of idle curiosity, what was happen for the previous decade and change, when an author deleted a mod file? Was it just archived then as well? Are there 15 old versions of Advanced Magecraft (for Oblivion) existing in some 'archive' somewhere?

If they really were actually deleted, what changed that they can't delete them now, and have to archive first? Why is it, a dynamic database can't handle deletions? That seems really bizarre to me. It's a database. The data changes. It's the nature of the beast. Deleting a file should be a trivial matter. Why isn't it?

the new nexusmods db design seems to me not prepared for the future and not reasonably featured at all. i just can guess but maybe the bad treatment of mod authors is just a result of pure desperation and lack of essential features in the new db-system, not allowing actions like individual file deletion and implementing simple opt out feature for system addons due to some main scary design flaws. as always: we will see...

It would seem that something changed in the last year or so. When I had my mods deleted, I got notifications about mods that I had deleted last year.

Because it's obviously just a smokescreen for them wanting stable collections. There's no good reason otherwise.
