DapperDaveth
I have been watching all kinds of tutorials on this and none of them show me the proper way to install SKSE64 with vortex. The guide on Nexus Mods appeared very helpful at first. But in the video the instructor was installing a script extender for fallout 4. I don't know if that game just functions differently with vortex, but anyways. In the video the guy literally clicks the notification that the script extender isn't installed, so he does via vortex and its done in seconds. With Skyrim Special Edition I get that notification but it takes me to the silverlock.org website to do it manually. So I figured that's what I'm going to have to do. The second part of the tutorial covers this too. In the video he extracts it to his desktop then drags it to the drop box in vortex. When I try to do that, it tells me directories are not supported. Ok so how do I make it whatever vortex wants in the drop box? I'm lost
jinsitsu
Both Script Extenders for FO4 and Skyrim LE or SSE are need to be installed manually as usual. Just a drag and drop the files in your game Directory and don't download it via Vortex. Anyways, Install SKSE manually as normal, means after downloading SKSE extract the files inside the archive and put them to your Skyrim Directory. Start the Vortex. Now go to 'Dashboard', where the SKSE icon should have highlighted next to the game. Click the 3 dots and select 'Make primary'. This'll ensure SKSE is launched on startup through Vortex and you're done. If you still unsure on what you're doing try Gophers Video, I'll leave a link here for his SKSE64 Tutorial just in case https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTNy9Qr2sOc Edited August 20, 2021 by jinsitsu
Solution DapperDaveth Posted August 20, 2021 Author Solution Share Posted August 20, 2021 I figured it out. I just had to right click the directory and add it to an archive on my desktop. Then dragged the newly created archive into the dropbox on vortex and it was happy.

The video you watched was old.Vortex can install SKSE just fine without jumping through the hoops the video shows you
pmurnion
"Actually, all you had to do was click INSTALL in Vortex.". This is such a classic internet help comment. WTF does it mean. I'm looking at Vortex now and where is "INSTALL"? There are a dozen different screens. The original solution using the dropbox I understood. It really is so unhelpful when people tell you what to do but never 'how'. How is all that matters.
