Stop Rearranging the Tools on the Dashboard

Doesn't seem to affect me, mainly because I either Leave Vortex open all the time.

Or when it shuts, I reopen it, and never resize it, and that's with 15 tools in the dashboard

I was cleaning up, removing things I don't need, and the grid got rearranged into something that made it harder for me to find tools because they weren't logically grouped. So I removed everything and added tools back in, which was going fine until Vortex decided to rearrange things on it's own.

Honestly? This should be considered a bug. Imagine if your email program decided on a whim to rearrange the buttons and you end up hitting "Reply to All" instead of "Reply"? Spontaneous changes in UI layout are not a feature, they are a problem.

no one is arguing with you about considering it a bug - if you want it addressed - report it to the devs via the in-app feedback as they don't always pop up in here. (groundhog day).

well they're only a couple of guys and they're obviously working really hard at making this tool as good as it can be. its a priority system and the issue is going to be low priority, all things considered. i just think if it matters to you that much, some feedback would probably be appreciated. it would certainly get the message to the devs as they don't always pop up in here.

The issue was opened August 13, 2018. Three years, eleven days ago. Me adding my voice won't change anything.

You adding your voice shows them that THREE YEARS Later, people are still complaining about this problem.

I get that, but the last added entry was June 17. So three years later they should know it is still a problem.

i'm sure they do - but its a priority system when it comes to bugs. it aint fifo or lifo. it works like triage. if you want to get this fixed, report it. none of us can report it for you - because we're not futzing around with our dashboards - when you send feedback you can send in various diagnostic files from your session that who knows? may contain the piece of the puzzle to fix the issue.

or, just carry on posting in here. 'cos that works too.

Look, thank you all for your time, but I looked for an official solution or answer before I came here. This is a 3 year old problem that they seem to have no interest in fixing, despite multiple reports and requests. What I was hoping for is that someone knew of either an extension or unofficial tweak that would mitigate the worst of the problem by at least stopping the program from rearranging things on it's own, or if that wasn't possible letting the user decide the arrangement scheme by editing something (there is no INI of JSON file or whatever that I can find).

so what was the point of your post(s)?

you want it fixed but wont send feedback to help get it fixed? how odd.

Really? To ask if anyone knew a workaround. I thought that was pretty clear. I thought that maybe in the three years this issue has existed someone might have figured out an alternative way to make it behave properly.

This whole thread should have ended at the second post, by HadToRegister. Suggestions about putting in a new request, when the same request has been ignored for years, are not helpful. Nothing is accomplished by perpetuating a broken system in the hopes that maybe, this time, someone will listen. If we all did that this entire website wouldn't exist, we'd just request something from the game companies then wait patiently, hand out, hoping they released a patch.

So, again, I looked, there is no official solution. I want to know if someone has an unofficial one. If they do, wonderful, they'll have my sincere gratitude. If not, there is no reason to inject insulting content like "have you requested official help", when it should be obvious that I looked for that first.

If someone has an answer please PM me, since this thread has become nonproductive.

you were told second post in by HTR that you cant do what you wanted. third post in i suggested reporting it to the mods. after that - i think you went off and played "last poster wins" or something.

Workarounds for Vortex are usually turned into extensions and uploaded here: https://www.nexusmods.com/site/mods/categories/4/?BH=2. Maybe there's a solution already there.

If not, then the OP and/or friends might themselves consider developing an extension to address the problem. After all, Vortex is open source. Such an extension would be a nice tool.

Personally, I've never had a reason to reorganize my tools menu. The default arrangement makes perfectly good sense to me. (However, what is "logical" to one person may be totally "illogical" to another person.) Furthermore, in the three years that I've been using Vortex, it has never sporadically and randomly rearranged my tools menu.
