LE Bards, Barding, and Speechcraft

So am I the only one bothered by how strong the presence of bards in Skyrim is and yet the fact that you cant actually be one? I guess TECHNICALLY you can be, but it does nothing. So my proposal? Connect Illusions and Speechcraft (Persuasion, Bargaining, idk what its called right now) into Barding. Now dont make them one tree, but have their skills both affect one outcome. Make it so you get speech options against Humanoids you have calmed and maybe allows you to Bribe them, or persuade them in some way to either fight their friends or just leave you be. Have instruments you wield as weapons and make them like staffs where they have spells on them but they are all AoEs or something.

I am sure this has been brought up before and there are a million and one problems with this idea, but cmon Bards are cool.

Barding is actually armour for horses. :wink:

 

I am playing a Bard at the moment and it's great fun. I based it on Daggerfall, Morrowind and AD&D.

It's a shame there aren't any real College quests and proper membership like with Winterhold, but these mods work together really well once you get used to the differences between them.

I have play and bash on my computer, but when I go to start it up it get to the main screen and crashes out with no error message. I turn it off and it works fine.

Not with the version that is currently released. A new version is being tested for release... soonish.

Any suggestions on why it keeps crashing? Im using the Nexua manager to activate it, and it gets to Bethesda Logo and crashes out without an error message.

You must have some conflicting mods or your load order is wrong. You did install all the scripts and meshes properly? I do not use NMM as it can break some of my mods, but I do use BOSS. BOSS is not 100% accurate, but helps a lot.

You cannot even start a new game?

 

If you are going to play a Bard I assume you'll be starting a new game anyway? I have about 140 mods and all those I listed work perfectly together. You can get free room and board, maybe a drink and some money from the inn keeper with Become a Bard as a sort of mini side-quest by asking the inn keeper first, and then perform ad hoc with Playable Instruments - Play and Bash and maybe get some tips thrown from the crowd.

 

Really, they work so well together it's like they are one mod. Play and Bash adds some AD&D-type Bardsong powers Become a Bard does not have, like Illusion effects from playing in Battle Stance, but both have superb music, especially Become a Bard. With Become a Bard, your Speech skill can affect performance and I always set music skill to the same as my initial Speech score.
