Jormundgand
I find religion quite a dull fiction, so im an ateist. But if i would have to choose one of the fictions to belive in, i would choose norse mytholgy. :D
HeLLL
Does noone watch southpark?? In the episode "The Superbest friends" all the main "religious icons" are part of a elite team of do-gooders knowen as the "Super Best Friends". You have Jesus, Lau Tzu, Chrissnar <some hindu dude>, the founder of the mormans and Seaman <with his sidekick swallow> oh and Moses as the "Super Computer". Any way isn't possible that all these religious icons are all friends and that they all exsist? Could it also be that we do not have the capibility to even begin to understand the concept of a "God like force"?
Switch
Could it also be that we do not have the capibility to even begin to understand the concept of a "God like force"? could be. but we try :D
HeLLL
could be. but we try :D True but unfortunitly in trying we get as humans get irrate when someone else does not conform to our way of thinking. Hence mindless violence and hate towards an individual or peoples occurs :( Religion and Greed are the two main causes of war. Quite ironic though isn't it. Thou shall not kill And what happens in the lords name??? Goes for many religions <as opposed to been directed at only christianity>. Its not the religions themselves that are flawed but the people following them and preaching them. Power corrupts.
Switch
the people going around and killing eachother arent TRUE christians as it is anyways. as u say, thou shalt not kill.theyre just mindless killers who use religious arguments as an excuse for violence i dont know what other religions teach but i would imagine it's the same with most other religious conflicts. ThetaOrionis01
AS I said before, religion is a supreme tool to manipulate people with. INspire religious fanaticism in people and they are capable of the most gruesome atrocities. That goes for any ideology, not just religion, but religion has a slight advantage there - after all, how can you argue against the will of god? I think when people have complete faith in any ideology, they no longer question the morality of this ideology. And lets face it, throughout the history of most religions and some idelogies, questioning the tenets of a religion/ideology was a good way to get yourself ostracized at best, and executed at worst - blasphemy, heresy, enemy of the state etc. In the hands of an unscrupulous leader - and as someone said power corrupts (or attracts the corruptible) - this unquestioning obedience can be turned into holy wars, genocide, witchhunts, crusades etc.
HeLLL
But who are you to say they are not true christians? They may believe they are. <just giving you grief  >I think when it comes to religious conflicts; most of it would be bred into you. Ask a Irsih Catholic why he hates a Protestent for. Most likely he would go on aout something superficial like the way the worship God or something. But deep down he would have no idea why he just shot a Protestent for. His father told him to hate and his fathers father told him. <only sumising here people don't take offence>Children are born into the world knowing no evil <or good for that matter> so everything they know is taught to them. ThetaOrionis01
Because there's stuff about not killing others, and turning the other cheek, etc in the bible? :P Religious hatred is definitely a product of upbringing. Here in the west of Scotland we have sectarianism...protestant versus catholics. A symbol of this sectarianism are the two football clubs - Celtic (catholic) and Rangers (protestant). IIRC the first time Rangers signed a catholic player he got spat on. If you ever have the misfortunate of witnessing a sectarian march (yup, we get them in Glasgow too), be prepared for ugliness. The whole situation isn't helped by the fact that there are catholic schools in the mainstream education system - so parents can actually choose religious segragation for their children. Not long ago there was a radio program on the local station about sectarianism. One child interviewed said something like " We hate them and they hate us - that's what it's always been like and that's what it always will be like." And sectarianism isn't just confined to people parading through the streets of chanting slogans at football matches - there is actual violence. For instance, a young Celtic fan was casually murdered for wearing a Celtic top in the wrong place at the wrong time. Now, where does it say in the bible - 'thou shalt not suffer a Celtic supporter to live'?
HeLLL
That sucks. I am amazed that something like that would happen in scotland. Its just so sad. Killing a CHILD because he wore a celtic soccer top is sick. Absoultly sick. <I HATE viloence against children> I think it is fear. When man comes across something new or different he is scared that it will be more powerfull than him. So he is afraid of it. With fear comes hate. And what does hate breed????? Violence. Its a sad cycle that in this case seems to be put down to differnt religious soccer clubs. I mean OMG this is stupid. Soccer is a great sport. Leave religion at home and in a church. <sorry about the rant but if I saw those people that killed that child, I wouldn't think twice about slowing down in my car <_< >
ciddy
this is another thing i hate; people make a big fuss over one death, but they overlook the war crimes that happen evry day; thousands of kids are beaten to death for doing nothing wrong, women raped, villages burned, and the so-called UN does virtually nothing to stop it. thats what really ****** me off
