bible defender
This is just a request for Oblivion. It always bothered me that when you committed a crime, you automatically went to prison. I was just wondering if there were any way to make a mod that sent you to trial. Here is what I had in mind. If the victim escapes, or if there were witnesses, you got caught and went to jail (for booking, and a chance to escape). Then from there you went, say to the elder council for trial. After hearing the side of the prosecutor (where victims and witnesses describe what happened), your lawyer and you make an argument for your innocence. Then the council will decide your guilt, and the sentencing. In the most heinious cases, the death penalty. You are sent to jail, (to serve your sentence, or await execution [that would be a timed event where you have the chance to escape]) then released (if not executed). You have a chance of gaining skills and losing some due to the time you spend. Is that possible? If so is there anyone who could make the mod? I am completely illiterate as far as modding goes. Eshenaleros
this really should go in mod requests. That said, I wholheartedly agree
Trigonous
Seems fairly awesome. Actually getting it to work may prove more difficult. Instead of having the victim of the crime be at the trial, it'd be easier to just have the "arresting officer," since any generic guard can fill that role. And a lawyer seems out of place, you'd probably have to represent yourself.
Eshenaleros
so then, when arrested, we have two options, the harder being standing up on display for someone to list off your crimes, or to have a guard run up and list your crimes to you while being arrested. either way, this mod will add a bit more realism, I think
Sangel2525
"She turned me into a newt...But I got better" :P I dunno it's kind of a medieval game, and that Monty Python quote rings in my ears when being put on trial in Oblivion considering how DUMB the AI is. XD Then again your fine could be to bring the Elder Council a shrubbery. XD Seriously though it's a cool idea, though if my character while on the whole redemption kick at the moment would likely get hung for what she did in The Dark Brotherhood. >.>
roquefort
Trials would be a great idea, but I suspect way too complicated to implement convincingly. Some alternative punishments to jail could be another idea though. For minor misdemeanors a ball & chain so you couldn't move around much, or being put in stocks for a while, or forced labour or combat in the arena. bible defender
Or maybe, once the prosecutor/city guard etc. gave their case. You defend yourself. I was maybe thinking of a one chance persuasion kinda thing. Once talking to all the council members, depending how you did on persuading them, they take a simple vote where majority wins. And off you go to either be free, serve a sentence, or executed (with possibility of escape). Would that make it easier? And yeah this is a request, just didn't know where exactly to put it. But as for me, I am completely stupid as to how to even begin a mod like this. But I figured it would add to realism. SO, is it possible and is there anyone that would like to give it a try? conerin136
okay ackward ive never used a forum before  this looks good but a suggestion in scotland where im from there used to be a verdict called 'not proven' i would likie to see that for a bit more realism and the possibility of past crmes comming back to haunt your character  :ninja:  this took ages because I couldnt find the post button
TheCalliton
"She turned me into a newt...But I got better" :Pi salute you"its just a flesh wound..."anyways, the whole trial thing seems out of place. Back then, there werent exactly large trials. p.s. it isnt "she turned me into a newt... but i got better."theres no but in it
Germandeathkittiez
"Back then," this isn't the Middle Ages, It's Elder Scrolls... who knows it could even be set in the future. Law and economy and all that are sort of anonymous... I don't think it would break immersion to add a sort of modern trial, I mean the game includes rather modern technology (fighter's guild). I think a full complete trial for this game would add much variation to the whole repetitive "stop ur under arrest" thing. I get sick of walking through the street and every 5 seconds being yelled at by guards. And my character is the infamous sort, so running from psychic guards for crimes I committed of prolly stealing a shovel 5 in game months ago just gets boring (when I have a bounty of 50,000 gold from it) I think that if I kill someone, one of the sneak skills should become more reliable for survival(in this case persuasion), Like in the DB, where you can kill and slip away unnoticed.A trial should be pretty simple to make though... other than cut scene animations and scripting people to get up and sit down at the right times (not that I mod or anything). After everyone gives their case, one person should come up to you and ask you a series of questions to which you could tell the truth or lie. If you have a high enough persuasion skill, they might believe you. And if you have a really high persuasion skill, you can manage to actually persuade with them so that they release all fines and bounty from your head. This maybe could be based on luck, and your player level as well. Sorry to rant, I just think this is a great idea.
