Phoynix
OK no trouble ever with fallout3 now this last week it just keeps crashing after about 5-10 mins, ive gone over everything I can think of that could cause the problem. Tried uninstalling all modsReinstall of Fallout3installing older and newer video drivers. IT plays fine, then the game hiccups and kinda crashes(most quickly outside enviroments)Fallout crashes it drops me back to desktop(at 640res 4bitcolour) with Error message Fallout needs to close. Once I click ok fallout closes and my screen turns off.My computer is still responive and if I press the off button it will close down, rather then having to do a hard off(5 second press off switch). This suggests to me its a video thing. System E8500 at stock 4 gigs with a GTX280XpEverything is stock and nothing has been overclocked ever. If anyone has ideas I would love to hear them because IM thinking its hardware related and IM going to have to find my receipt and exchange my 280. OmniDeath
Does this happen with other games or programs? It sounds hardware related. Do you have anything monitoring system temperatures?
Phoynix
Not that ive noticed, but I havnt played many programs as of late.FireFox did crash yesterday but that was after Fallout did and before I pressed OK.. which could be caused by fallout. had no problems otherwise that ive noticed as of yet. Wait now that I think of it Masseffect wouldnt work at all last week when my newphew tried it and I tried reinstalling and that didnt work. Crashes upon startup gives error 6000 or so and says specific security module couldnt be found. Hmm they both use the same copyprotection, I wonder if I have a corrupted file. phoneyLogic
and what is with backroundprograms? did you already try to disable them?I remember this "Error message Fallout needs to close." caused by an internet program
Phoynix
tried it with everything closed. Tried the codec fix that helped others who had a like problem. IM thinking its hardware because if I set everything to low it takes longer before it happens.
phoneyLogic
I made ecactly the same experience now after overclocking my videocard.could be a hardware issue.in this case it should happen with other games too.think its a good idea to check the temperatures while gaming (like omnideath already said)could also be an cooler problem (dont know how its called;) then the cpu gets too hot or something like that
PureSnipe
Is your card an nVidia card? If so, when the cards start to overheat, they communicate to the OS and tell it to shut off the program putting the stress on it. After that, they completely shut down all GPU activities until the core reaches a safe operation temperature. Turn your graphics settings way the heck down, or get a new vid card. DON'T overclock it, that'll make it overheat faster. You could try cooling systems, but if it's heating up that quickly on something with relatively low GPU demand, then your best bet is to replace the card. www.newegg.com always had the best prices for me. CORRECTION: I just looked at your PC specs. That's a good card, but they run REALLY hot. Get something to cool it down. It's going into emergency shutdown to avoid cooking itself to death. Bites either way, you have to spend some money to fix it. :wallbash:
Phoynix
Thing is I didnt have this problem previously. My card isnt overheating its 79c up and untill the crash.
PureSnipe
Ummm, is that degrees C or F. If it's C, then that's 174F. That's over 100 degrees hotter than mine runs. The emergency shutoff usually kicks in at 80C, so there's the problem
Phoynix
says the automatic shutoff is 90 here. I would love for this to be the problem as its hardware and I can get it replaced under warrenty. However if I alt tab out and let the card cool back down and tab back in it still crashes after about the same ammount of time and the card can be between 43c-60c then So unless its already cooked this cant be the problem.
