Fallout 4 Character models

So Ive been curious for a while, but how hard is it to change the character models for new Vegas. Can you just use fallout 4s skeleton and models or are there other complications. I like dragbodys character overhauls, but they don't touch every npc. If the npcs simply had higher quality models, this would fix the inconsistency with characters.

Can someone more knowledgeable tell me why this hasn't happened yet? I imagine there is a barrier preventing this from working. I have seen higher quality bodys but heads seem to be absent.

There are currently 196 files in the Hair and Face category. I am sure you can find something to your liking there.

And yes, the files from Fallout 4 do not transfer to FNV without some work being done to them.

There are better head meshes but they make little difference because characters were designed with the vanilla one, someone would have to go through every NPC and edit them.

Thats make a lot more sense. It explains why when I changed the head nif, the faces looked kinda like god messed up lol. Makes a lot of sense. I only wish that every npc was a little higher poly

Fallout New Vegas is an old 32 bit game. No matter how much memory your computer has, the game can only access 2 GB. There's a patch to extend that to 4 GB but that's as far as it can go.

If you start using a lot of high quality meshes and high resolution textures, the game runs out of memory and crashes.

The game's texture caching system also tends to leak memory. The longer you play, the more and more memory gets leaked and eventually the game runs out of memory and crashes. Using higher resolution textures tends to make this happen faster, so unfortunately you end up with a choice. You can make the game look better and crash more often, or you can keep the old clunky meshes and textures and have the game more stable.

That said, there are some mesh/texture edits out there that aren't so bad on memory use. Texture size is more important than mesh complexity. Character overhauls that don't tend to use high resolution textures tend to work best.

I think people need to be aware of the limits and spend their memory budget according to what their priority is, these two weigh in at around 100mb despite sharing the same body textures, with different body textures it would be even more and it soon starts adding up, you can get away with it if you don't go installing super hi res everywhere else. ENBoost solves the texture memory issue letting people go nuts but it comes at a cost, the more you rely on it the worse performance gets.
