Gruftlord
Hey there, i like to support the nexus by putting it on the exclusion list of my adblocker.but recently i get an annoying amount of ads for stupid browser and/or PTW games that seem toonly advertise the fact that they are "18+" games, often depicting a barelly dressed manganized woman.today, i saw an advertisment, that didn't even print anything else, no name of the game, nothing. just "over 18? yes/no?" (two fake buttons on the gif).similar ads include ad lines such as: once you join, your friends/girl friend will not be seeing much of you any more.... only for men, only 18+etc... what ever. not sure if it's an international thing, i'm in germany, the ads are in german. so geo-branded. just to get this out of the way: i'm not complaining about the naked skin, i'm complaining about the incredibly stupidity of the ads. they're insulting to my brain, and i feel dumber after each of them i see. could you please try to do something to get rid of these kind of Ads? seriously, i'm thinking about throwing the nexus off my Adblock exclusion list, because the ads are THAT stupid. a popular site like the nexus shouldn't have to bear with such nonesense ads. get a better ad contractor, someone out there must be willing to provide higher quality advertisment on a big site like this. Dark0ne
You can just exclude that ad from showing :)
Gruftlord
there are several of this kind, it's tedious.and there are new ones popping up.as i said, i even get the impression they become dumber each week hope you can make anything with that link: http://www.google.com/url?ct=abg&q=https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/request.py%3Fcontact%3Dabg_afc%26url%3Dhttp://skyrim.nexusmods.com/contents/ad-right.html%26gl%3DDE%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dca-pub-3457189870003434%26ai0%3DCs34AJtgDUr-AIPHO0AHB-4GIDpya1csD_LOuzWOYrJSYQxABIOvgkBZQ15m78AZglbr4gZQHoAHc4aniA8gBBKkCXJ5ttTz5YT7gAgCoAwGqBLMBT9C0A9M36pjSC30rMH50Xp65gSG_1Isx1yQuMGEe8z-9CvqlZWAMHyDlPUOImht1OKKz4pfhiJj8b9zcUrbW7jLfxQl8upWuT7kvDbmxim5mnCShya69y7wHVeRulbxSH8HXUOa6cbFn1aarEujYnXaBsf2LRcOhHZgeoE7VVmM76IoX0DkOlOeaKHgKfF25SS9RBvy8aNZaSSuRU_xBS-4AzDC8RRy36Chq7eM5uxUWfrrgBAGIBgGgBgSAB4ye1h0&usg=AFQjCNE7hoJI5j1L13o1IvGZtBy41ES7UA Edited August 8, 2013 by Gruftlord
ub3rman123
At least Evony seems to have given up. That was an amusing campaign that had nothing to do with the product.
Gruftlord
At least Evony seems to have given up. That was an amusing campaign that had nothing to do with the product. hoho hey just took a wiki walk and found the nexus prominently depicted in a blog about this game: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2009/07/how-not-to-advertise-on-the-internet.html sadly it seems that these genius advertising schemes are finally swapping over to the german part of the internet.oh german internet, why do you have to be late on all the trends by years...wish this was over already. sad it's just starting in my country. looks like this scheme hasn't vanished from english speaking regions, as wellhttp://kotaku.com/esrb-tells-browser-game-to-quit-bragging-that-it-was-ra-504523307 Edited August 8, 2013 by Gruftlord
Kaffeekranz
Right now I'm activating my Adblocker, because I've been scared shitless by an auto-starting insanely loud (and insanely cheesy) german ad for Diablo3 on the SkyrimNexus front page.I mean, I get it, supporting this site and all, the advantages of a premium membership. But nearly getting a heart attack because of ads makes me don't want to come here at all.
Thandal
Remember, the Nexus has nothing to do with which adverts *you* see. There is a 3rd-party service which contracts with the advertisers, then selects the specific ones presented in your browser depending on several variables, including location (based on IP address) and local time of day. Gruftlord
the expression "nothing to do with the adverts" is pretty wrong.the nexus may: switch to a different 3rd party provider, change the terms of contract with their 3rd party about which ads get displayed in which manner, and last but not least, they may already have a contract that gives them some say over the ads. like an exlusion list for example. or an agreements, that vorbids layers over the site and/or ads with automatic sound. sometimes a ad slips through that violates the contract, there have even been instances where ads spread viruses. in this case, te 3rd party provider will even be happy, should site admins contct them about foul ads in their sortiment. so, the nexus DOES have influence over the ads, even under the current conditions. interestingly, those 18+ ads seem to appear less now since a few days, and in general, the ads are actually not that badly selected. it's definatelly not a rubbish 3rd party as i first suspected, but rather it was a single case (or lets say half a dozend cases) of ads of subpar quality. Thandal
@Gruftlord; All such 3rd-party services behave in this way. They all have "problem" adverts. As has been mentioned numerous times in these forums, the Nexus is not directly involved with their selection and presentation, and cannot do anything about them (i.e. the providers will ignore the complaints) without some specific info: Date/time the advert was presentedIP of the recipientAdvert topic (name of product or offering)Reason considered inappropriate If a member is still sufficiently motivated to do so, we request the submission of a screen shot of the advert in question (to confirm presence on the Nexus and "source" of the material) with the other three pieces of info. Use the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page.
Dark0ne
I know the ads of which you speak. I've blocked many but they continue to come back. I've left it recently as I have other things to be doing. The suggestions you made require lengthy negotiation or outright reform that would take a very long time to action. Probably longer than these specifics ads are going to be running.
