FO3 Mod Load Order Help [Unresponsive or Crashing]

Hi everyone,

 

I'm having one of two problems after trying to mod Fallout 3 GOTY. Either the game will crash straight after the first slide ("Please Wait" I think), or it'll load up to the guy in Power Armour and just sit there. Music plays but the menu doesn't load and the game + keyboard is unresponsive.

 

The instant crash seems to happen when I tick the Merged Patch (labeled MP here). Otherwise, if it's not on, the game loads but doesn't do anything.

Streetlights should load between ThePItt.esm and BrokenSteel.esm Does the game run without mods? Did you load the game up with mods or add them one at a time? Are you using FOSE?

Is the game patched to Version 1.7? Do you have the latest GFWL file? Is the game installed outside "Program FIles"? Did you follow the instructions in FO3Edit Training Manual to make your merged patch? What is you operating system?

I'm running on Win7 64 bit and I've never had a problem running from the progam files before (with this game that is).

 

I checked that the game was working before starting to add all the mods. If I disable all the mods, I get the CTD immediately. And yes, I'm running FOSE. I'll update GFWL and see if that works. I bought the game from Steam and as far as I can tell, it's kept up to date.

 

I also followed everything to the letter to get the merged patch.

The game you buy from Steam is the same as the one you buy on a disc, without the disc. It still needs to be updated to version 1.7. Fallout 3 is not and never was a steam dependent game. Steam is only serving as a vendor for the game.

Ok, I seem to have narrowed down the problem. I did a reinstall of everything, patch the game prior to installing mods. I tested the mods one by one before adding another.

 

The problem seems to be with 3 ESPs from the Fallout Interoperability Patch. Specifically these;

 

[X] EVE - FWE Master Release.esp
[X] EVE - FWE Master Release (Follower Enhanced).esp
[X] EVE Anchorage - FWE DLC Anchorage.esp

 

If I have them ticked, the game loads to the power armour guy and does nothing. Unticked, it loads fine, cursors appear, the keyboard is responsive.

 

I've downloaded the latest FOIP patch for that and also the latest copy of FWE.
