DarkSpyda04
Post some of the most dark and disturbing nightmares you had that have accumulated in your memory and will not depart from you. These can range back from your dream last night to when you were in preschool. Here are three of mine. One from last year and two from when I was just a kid.The Pale Family - A year agoSo we all remember Mario cart? I was racing down a coastal region and there were vibrant fields of tall grass all around, a lighthouse, wind turbines, all very beautiful a scene. But where the path up ahead went right, I diverged left, straight through the blades of grass that obscured my vision. I couldn't see anything but the cart didn't stop because of that. It kept going. I ended up crashing down into somewhere dark. It is like the lightlessness of a crawlspace or the basement of your house with all the lights off. I searched around. Nothing but cobwebs and solid, bumpy walls. I made my way down something of a corridor. I saw a door in front of me and opened it up. Inside was a seemingly empty room with one window; it was boarded up and blocked out sunlight which was trying to come through. The room was illuminated only by a TV in the corner to my right. The light from the TV shined on something in the opposite corner. There was a family posed for a portrait, two children in front (the shortest), the mother and father in the back (the tallest). They were dressed in formal wear like you might expect them to wear in a family portrait. Something was off, though. Something unsettling that completely ravaged the idea of what they might have stood for. They weren't just a smiling, happy family. They were a smiling, happy family with pale skin, gaunt appeal, and of course their eyes. They had none; hallowed out to reveal empty blackness. The TV they were facing that illuminated the room. It was static; they weren't watching anything. The Chocolate Man - ChildhoodI was in the house I'd been living in for 9yrs, a second floor apartment of a three-story building. It was midday and the blinds were pulled down to leave the dining room in a sort of romantic orange glow. The dinner table with a width ½ the size of its legnth lay in the middle of the room, barely leaving any room to get by on either side. This room was the atrium to all other rooms. On the table my mother lays out a dish of chocolates; I pick one up and nibble on it like a squirrel that just got thrown a peanut. She calls out for my brother and sister to get their fix. It's a moment to cherish and what's more there's still plenty of day left to enjoy. We're probably going to spend the rest of the day indoors but whose complaining?Nobodies complaining. In fact, there's not even a sound. Everyone pauses as if they're sensing something. Then I hear it too or maybe I felt it. Heavy footsteps practically shaking the house only get noisier and noisier. Everyone scatters, leaving me to fend for myself. I was shooken up, though. What's happening? What happened to the good moment? I reacted and hid myself under the dinner table. I saw my brother go and crawl into the washing machine and shut himself away from the world. The house door smashed open and in came the mushy footsteps of something massive, I'm looking out from under the table and I see his feet. They are nothing but a mass of flowing chocolate. I try not to make a sound. The feet stomp around the table as if searching for something. They pause. What is this thing? Please don't let it find me! But the feet pull away and go back out the door, lambasting on the way down, slamming the entry door. We're safe. He's gone.I crawl out from under the table. The dish with the chocolate is nowhere to be found. I set my focus to the washing machine. I open the washer up to let my brother know it's over. But my brother's not there; just a bubble. The bubble pops.Cannibals got grandma - ChildhoodThis was when I slept over my grandmother's house beside my brother and sister who were also staying over. I was twisting and turning all night because there was no room to myself. The dream goes I was walking through the house to the bedroom which I had fallen asleep in. The house was pitch black save for the light of a slight few candles. I was alone and no-one was with me. I crept through a narrow, T-shaped hallway separating the living room from the bathroom and two bedrooms; one spare. The door to my grandmother's bedroom was creaked open just a tiny bit. There was just enough light coming from inside to dimly light the room at center. I inched the door open. There inside was the bloody fat remains of my grandmother separated between these subhuman cannibals. They ate the meat off her legs like you would a turkey drumstick. They all stopped and shifted their attention over to me. Edited August 14, 2013 by DarkSpyda04
billyro
When I was about 5 or so, I dreamt that me and my brother (who would have been 2) were at the beach and Mum and Dad weren't in sight anywhere. My brother went into the water and started drowning, so I went out and was trying to lift him so his head was out of the water but the waves kept knocking me over and I couldn't. It was terrifying. That one has stuck with me for the last 13 years. I don't really get any nightmares any more though. Apparently those who play video games often have far more placid dreams than those who don't. Thus I can usually outrun any enemy in my dreams now. I remember that there were zombies around the place in one of my dreams, and one of those running ones came after me. I ran and it latched onto my back, but I twisted and flung it over my shoulder and pulled back my fist to smash it in the face. I woke abruptly, sitting up in my bed with my fist poised to strike. It was so cool. :D
brokenergy
I had a nightmare once that Rage was going to kill me.
Vindekarr
HAH! I remember RAGE, is that even on anymore? Sorry, I'm nostalgia'ing like a Dickens right now. I dreamed someone actually read the stories I write, and became my fangirl, and that she then started infecting other people and they became fans too, and soon there was an entire zombie horde on the loose and it was all my fault. It also had Kiera Knightly in it. Have I revealed too much about my personality/gas-giant ego?
DarkSpyda04
When I was about 5 or so, I dreamt that me and my brother (who would have been 2) were at the beach and Mum and Dad weren't in sight anywhere. My brother went into the water and started drowning, so I went out and was trying to lift him so his head was out of the water but the waves kept knocking me over and I couldn't. It was terrifying. That one has stuck with me for the last 13 years. Yes, the lack of control that make so many nightmares terrifying. You don't want something to happen but it's gonna happen and your efforts to stop it are futile. In some dreams you can be chased by a killer and it's as if you're running in place with no control over your own two feet. Then there are dreams that are quite the opposite. Once I had this dream this guy was stealing stuff from my car so I chased after him and started beating him down with my own two fists. It was so awesome to have control over something. What about blood and gore in dreams? I posted about the horror of seeing cannibals devour my grandmother's scattered remains but I never mentioned how the sight alone has no effect by itself. It's meaningless if it's just blood and gore but it was my grandmother they were eating; someone who loved me gone forever and in the most horrible way you could imagine. It shares similarities to my brother in the washing machine being reduced to a bubble before popping. I woke up crying from that, you know. It's common enough to have blood and guts in my dreams and not be afraid but it also means something when the dream forces me to look at it. Oddly enough that's when it becomes scary. You can close your eyes but nothing can hide the sight. Powerlessness like I was talking about above.
OpheliaNeoma
When my brother was a baby, I once had a dream that was a combination of A-Team and some Lifetime movie. My mom and I were hanging on the skids of a falling Apache heli and we jumped off, landed on some hybrid motocross/cruiser bikes right before the chopper crashed and exploded, then we had a slow motion breaking entry through glass walls of some random hospital. In the hospital a woman who couldn't reproduce kidnapped my infant brother and hired some other chick to kill me and my mom, and it was like Silent Hill hiding from her, considering she had some AR-15 based rifle. The scary part about it that freaked me out was that when we found the kidnapper and my brother, she was threatening us to go away while pointing a gun at his head... I was just frozen there locked in a stalemate with the woman, I had a pistol pointed at her, she had one pointed at my brother, the rifle lady was pointing hers at me, and my mom had a pistol pointing at the rifle lady... I woke up before anything happened, but it felt like hours in that same position.. A bunch of strings playing the Shepard's Scale and a very loud heartbeat just going on and on and on... I have many recurring dreams but this one is one I am glad I haven't had more than once, even if the first part is a bit silly.

K00L
I'll spoiler mine so it doesn't take up so much space. I used to have these nightmares that were almost like an every night thing (I've had a few dreams/nightmares that recur a lot), and almost ALWAYS the same thing happened. Usually I would be asleep, and wake up to go down to the bathroom or because I saw the light from the TV. It was almost always pitch black (and if it wasn't, something would happen and it would be soon), and the light switches would never work. Then come the creepy things that chased me. They were small and brown and wrinkly (kind of like E.T.) and had a chest/heart that would glow in some of the super dark rooms of my house. I don't know why I approached them always, but if I saw the reddish glow (like when you hold your finger against a flashlight) I would go to look. I guess its like you said, there's a feeling of not being able to look away, of not having any control even when you KNOW something isn't right and don't want to do whatever you are doing. If they didn't catch me inside (and generally bite into my side which was this horrible feeling that made me twist around and squirm), or I didn't fall off the edge of our loft (and then plunge into a never-ending free fall where I was either eaten, or I would jump and wake up), then I ran outside into our building which was usually misplaced, guarded by larger versions of the brown creatures (these ones were a bit like the pig things from Star Wars, but still looked more like E.T.) and larger than normal. Inside was filled with one of two things:a) bright lights... aaannnnddd giant swinging axes. I'm not sure what was on the other side of the building.b) shelves and junk and lots of rooms and blocked off doors. Also was generally bright enough that I could see. Almost like daylight was coming in even if it was night time.If I didn't make it into our building, I flew. And then they sometimes flew as well. Or caught me because I couldn't keep flying for some reason. If anyone I knew was in the dream, they normally would saw something really creepy and smile (if not they would either just disappear or run away from the things and leave me). Like my grandma saying, "I brought you a present..." The little box she held squirmed and I knew something bad was inside so I freaked out and started yelling and she just kept saying, "Open it." And then she opened it and these weird brown, wrinkly "worms" with really sharp teeth jumped out at me and would bite my sides.Apparently there was like a whole civilization/different species of these brown creatures. In ONE dream I met one who helped me. It disguised me as one of them somehow. I died of course. I don't think any of the other ones talked. Occasionally, I would be in the bathroom or some other room and it was either growing, or I was shrinking. And then those things showed up again. I'm not sure why I started having nightmares with these things. I'm not scared of E.T. and they only partially resemble him. I had this feeling of dread and intense fear whenever these dreams started, even before anything bad would happen. They took place MOSTLY in my house, but sometimes in the car, or in random places. Sometimes the random places would somehow connect me back home where the bad stuff went down. These dreams were horrifying to me. I would wake up cold and sweaty or breathing heavily and my heart pounding. I almost always would jerk awake. And it was never in the morning close to the time I should wake up, it was always early. Like 1-4 AM. Other than a lot of nightmares involving those things, I have a lot that I can remember that were different. I'll put a few. This one was bright and sunny, and everything felt perfect. I felt like I was smiling and really happy. There was a baby dragon flying around (which was super adorable) for whatever reason. Everything looked so colorful. The trees and the grass. It just felt... nice. And then it got darker, and the color was dull. I got that feeling I had in my other nightmares. I knew something was after me. I heard something chasing me and my dad was yelling. I turn and I saw something the size of a large dog running towards me. I can't remember what it looked like other than being dark. I sprinted towards a dead tree and I climbed as fast as I could. I should have been out of its reach. I thought I was. It slowly backed away. And then it took a running leap and grabbed me right out of the tree. This was another one that I jerked awake to. Other than being scared, some nightmares I had gave me this feeling of being utterly overwhelmed by the sheer size of everything. Specifically, this happened in a dream where I was in a car, at night. I got down in front of the seat and crawled under the glove box and ended up in this colorful, but poorly lit room of kiddy tunnels and arcades. I ended up lost in them, and felt like I was looking for someone or something. This dream was one of the ones that led back to my home somehow, which was pitch black and of course, filled with monsters.I remember my dreams a lot (and sometimes really specific details), so I could go on and on, but I'll list one more and then stop.I was in something that was like an old manor. There were people with me, and I was up in the attic, which is where I slept along with some other people my age (some my friends, others were people I didn't know). It was night outside, but the lights were on in the house. Everyone was awake. I can't remember what, but I was searching for something with some of these people. We went into a few of these beautiful old rooms. They were large and dusty and some had cobwebs in the corners. We were inside one that was filled with old wardrobes and crates and other miscellaneous items when someone screamed downstairs. I ran down the staircase and the lighting seemed to be flickering and becoming weak. Some old, gray haired lady was sitting at a table. She just kept mumbling something and nodding. I looked out the window and there was a man with a goat head coming out of the dark, forest-y area behind the house. Just slowly walking. I ran to tell everyone to lock the doors and hide, but they were gone. I turn around and he was inside, right behind me. And then I woke up. More recently... Most nightmares I had have stopped (and the few I have are more bizarre and dark and scary than the ones I had when I was younger and generally don't involve me being bitten by something [the manor/goatman one for example]), maybe because I have this really strong "sense" of being in a dream (for whatever reason this seems especially true if I notice something like not being able to yell, or that talking/hearing feels/sounds like its in my head [because it is lol]) and know how to wake myself up (screaming or trying to at least, falling, etc.).But now I've had these weird, I don't know... Waking dreams I guess. I KNOW I am awake. I can see my room. But I can't move (well barely, it's like there is something really heavy on me and I can barely move). I can't talk. I can't do anything but lay in bed. And something moves in my bed or somewhere in my room I see a dark shadow move. And then I feel something biting or stabbing me in the side or back. And then I fully wake up. Sometimes I woke up if I really, really forced myself to move.I actually had to look this up online a while back because it kept happening over and over, sometimes more than once in a night. I started to feel like I wasn't sleeping well because I would wake up scared all the time. Dreams are so interesting, I like to hear what other people dream about because sometimes I feel like I have such weird dreams...
Deleted31005User
my worst nightmare: Armageddon. Me and my family were all enjoying ourselves in the garden on a beautiful sunny day. Then all of a sudden I start hearing some sirens in the distance and people in the street became worried, they all stopped doing what they were doing and my mother went inside to watch the news on TV as to what was happening. She ran outside and yelled we all had to enter the house and start barricading the doors and windows, at this point my father left in hes car and told me he wouldn't be long and was just going to get to the shop for some food and water. He never returned.By this time the street was completely empty, though I started to hear people screaming in the distance as well now.My family kept on barricading the doors and windows when all of a sudden the sky started becoming orange and I felt it getting hotter and hotter, then even leafs from the trees started falling down.We proceeded to hide in the house but it was no use, it just kept getting hotter and when I peeked through a crack to look outside I noticed that the sky now was red and all the trees were completely barren, even the clouds all disappeared.Mom said we had to get to the basement where it would be safer and less warm, so we did but even then there was no hiding from the heat.We all curled up together...the heat became unbearable... I woke up covered in sweat. The thing is ever since I was young I found a secret exit from all my nightmares, all I had to do was jump in whatever liquid I could find (water/lava/acid/etc.), but in this particular nightmare all the water was vaporized and I was stuck, it freaked me the hell out!
