Request For Update In Your Terms Of Service

So I recieved a formal warning for posting an image which, while containing no nudity itself, had an extra image embedded which linked to my flickr account, which does. I was told to re-read the terms of service, which I have, and I don't see much there on the subject:

 

"Uploading to the Image Share section
The image share section of Nexus Sites was designed to allow players to share their favourite or informative screenshots of the games they play with other users of the site. While an adult-only tag is available that should be used if the image would be rated anything higher than a PG-13 in US/UK media we do not want images of nude characters hosted in the Image Share section. “No nudity” includes boobs and genitalia as well as visible pubic hair in the genitalia area.

Yes, there’s an adult-only content filter (that some have just taken to mean “nude content” filter) but adult-only content is more than just nudity. It’s excessive gore, it’s risque comic-strips, it’s pictures of characters wearing the skimpiest outfits possible without breaking the rules. It’s basically everything you wouldn’t want to have your boss catching you looking through at work.

Aside from no nudity, you should only upload images that would be acceptable in the file database. This, importantly, means that you should not upload pictures of mods you are using that would not be allowed in the file database such as mods using ported or copyrighted content. Whether or not you use these mods is your choice, but please do not upload pictures of these mods in action to the Image Share section of the sites.

As of the 12th of May 2010 a private "Supporter" only Image Share section is available for Supporter members of the site. This section may contain images of all types within the legal bounds of the internet. That is to say that nudity is permitted but any images that wouldn't be legally acceptable (such as pictures of naked children, bestiality, necrophilia, copyrighted content etc.) are still not allowed."

 

 

Nowhere in the above does it say that linking to another image site which may contain nudity is not acceptable.

 

Now I'm sure that somewhere in the vastness of posts on the Nexus it does. Probably. But not there, which is where it should be, in my opinion anyway.

 

I'm sure I'm not the only one whose run into this, so I think it would be a good idea to clarify this there in a bit more detail.

If I understand the issue correctly (this time) you're saying that as my flickr account contains other images, some of which contain nudity, I cannot post ANY image from there, regardless of content. So if I want to continue using flickr, I need to either delete the nude images, or set up a new account containing only 'clean' images.

I presume it doesn't matter for other image sharing sites either, though I never recieved any warnings when using Photobucket or imgur in the past. Again, clarification is needed for slower people like me.

 

Well, that's my thoughts on this. Thanks for reading. I'll go away now and contemplate my naval for a while.

Aha! Exactly what I was talking about. Thanks for the link. Now could you include it in the Terms Of Service page that I quoted? That's the page that comes up when you recieve a warning, so the info needed is not readily available.

Germane to the topic in general, I am constantly amazed by the number of people who need to have The Rules codified, and then endlessly argue them.

 

On a public forum it's not really that hard:

Be polite. Be respectful. Be willing to show your mother (and/or boss) anything you posted.
