The Gender side of mods

Why is it that every time I search for certain mods majority of them are female only? I log into nexus.com and I see a bunch of female armor, presets, body mods, etc. I even see a majority of these mods targeting towards female on different sites such as patreon, loverslab, etc. ( I understand that the creators of mods that have a patreon are not obligated to make mods and its based upon their own creativity and I understand that but I still use it as an example because most of the patreons I look up making armor mods are majorly targeted towards females than males ). ( I can basically say the same thing about loverslab so I won't go to into many details about that). I understand that not everyone likes to make or like certain mods when it comes to modding a videogame. It usually comes down to preference and obviously everyone is different. I'm just saying in my opinion that I have noticed a certain pattern when it comes to Skyrim mods in general. Women are more favorable than men when it comes to Skyrim modding and nothing can change my mind about it. Feel free to express your opinion on this topic would love to see some feedback.

In my opinion, when it comes to the preponderance of female oriented mods vs male oriented mods (in all capacities, from bodies to faces to presets to armors and clothing) , quite simply, because (afaik) most players are guys, and at a guess, are overwhelmingly guys without any, or sufficient realworld female companionship for whatever reason, be it age (too young or too old), economic circumstance, looks, health. social isolation, today's preponderance of 3rd wave "fauxmen" females, or whatever), Mod authors are, afaik, going to logically cater to their audience, as well as to their own predilections.

 

I can't participate in the actual poll because neither answer really suits me.

With followers and clothing mods, yes. For armor mods, I'd have to do a quick sample, but to me it seems there are quite a few armor mods that are male-only.

Obviously i don't have to like every mod I see . the point I'm trying to make is that there are more mods created for females than males in general.

I'll give you my perspective. The Long Story (In Spoilers) and the Short Story plus some Spoilers.

 

I will also agree with the above that it's mostly Lonely men but i know a few people that play Games that way that are not.

There is even pairs that like to ''Simulate stuff'' in Games like Conan Exiles and such. There is a big number of very young people as well.

 

 

 

Anyway. I myself have tried modding the Game somewhat like this. I will tell you that most of the time it was when i was completely alone. Moved to another City and such not knowing anyone etc. and spend alot of time alone when not working. I can't say sexual life has been empty but neither rich in the last years.

Its so so.

 

So what was the motivation when i played mods like this and what was the stuff?

Roleplay and Immersion. Few concepts:

 

A Witch with a more Alchemy/ Illusion/ Alteration and a Wilderness Survival Playthrough. Dropped it after a few times couldn't play the Game much.

Same concept with Witcher Elements. Dropped. Same concept with a Forsworn start. Dropped. Same concept but ending up into Civilisation Solitude later with more Speechcraft/ Thief skills and Bard Playthrough. Ended up a more Glamorous Concept. Result? Dropped.

A Vampire. This was more Dark similar elements but some difference in Skills and Story based mods. Tried even a Pure Bard/ Healer Cleric Concept like that. Dropped.

Here is why. Oversexualization. You also see X Mod that makes that Female Concept of yours more alive and you install it. Eventually you will end up with more sexualization of your Game even try some stuff from SL Mods.

 

But you never actually play the Game at all...

 

Why? Because this is only for Roleplayers who like to specifically Roleplay specific characters and get attached to them. I can't do that. I can't get attached to a ''Chick'' i just made because i don't feel like her. Plus alot of concepts require you to really change the Game or you end up changing the Game too much that is ''Unplayable'' as its was designed to be Played ''Dragonborn/ Civil War maybe/ Dawnguard'' etc. etc.

 

I have made dozens of Mod Profiles trying some concepts but i usually played them for around an hours or so and maybe i uninstalled some stuff and carried on another day or getting bored and ''Shelve'' the Game for a while or i ended up deleting the Mods that served as a Base for the Concepts and restarted other Playthroughs and Rinse and Repeat with the occasional Play some Days forget for a few Months.

 

I only had this trouble with Female characters because with Male Characters i had a different problem called ''Survival Mods'' its really the same with Survival Mechanics. Again this happened even with Male Player Concepts such as Highly modded Vigilant playthroughs or Necromancer type Concepts that changed the Game too much.

 

The only way i could succesfully play this Game was either Vanilla or when every mod was an enhancement to the Storyline and its base Mechanics.

So. I can only play Male Characters properly. I use mostly only Banded Iron Armor Set and Dawnguard Set and End Game Dragonpriest stuff with Shout Mechanics overhauls and Dragon Combat.

I use my Enai Mods to expand upon Skill and Combat Systems and the rest is mostly skill utilities and configurations and purely Gameplay mechanics.

 

I've also tried almost all Quest Mods so i don't use any Quest Mods anymore unless they are a Vanilla Quest enhancement.

Although New Quest mods are indeed something i try because they simply work with a Vanilla or Expanded Modded Game and Classes/ Characters.

 

There is also Quest Mods that would work well with the aforementioned concepts but i think these also fall under their Category and are best used with these Concepts to give the best they can offer.

 

But they and their Roleplay Concept Modded Load Orders can never be completely succesfully integrated with the Main Skyrim Game and the Dragonborn Story unless you ruin your own love for the Lore by changing the Lore.

 

 

 

Anyway. That's just me.

 

The Short Story: Porn.

 

 

 

Porn influence is the main reason for alot of things happening.

You mentioned Genders for example Male/ Female. Yeah its mostly Males.

 

Think about how many switch Gender because they really feel like it or have serious Scientifically supported reasons for it? Very Rare.

Most do because they were influenced by Porn and thats why many drop it. Too few have real reasons and take the no-return path.

 

 

 

Something similar happens with Skyrim modding.

The majority of the mods that are female-only, in my anecdotal experience of clicking around looking for things, are created for accommodating fantasies of a particular sort. Like others have mentioned, the majority of these mods were created by men for men to use.

As a female player who occasionally wants things for male characters (be it a follower mod or armor set or animation, etc), I have to sift through 20 pages of boob & bottom slider "armor" to find one created for any other purpose. The community is what the community is.

If you want to see more neutrality, turn off adult content settings, and all of a sudden, things look more evenly spread or even male-only mod dominant. I mean...it's your best option if that's what you're looking for.

Because so many of the mods I use (skin textures, body mods, animations, etc.) get classified as adult content--even if there's nothing racy involved--I just have to deal with the reality of it. You gotta sift through a lot of custom nipples and butt sliders to find a good armor for your male character. That's just how it is. Pornography is rife in the world of mods; it is absolutely everywhere. Whether you think that's a good or bad thing is for each individual to discern, but it's the reality.

There are a lot of mods for male characters and there are arguably even more for female characters. I've found that the good-quality mods rise to the top, however, and you can find what you're looking for with a little persistence.
