Solid State Hard drives

Momentus isn't even the fastest HDD. It only has a marginal advantage over other HDD in access times, and lacks the sequential performance of full-size 7200s. The only situation I could recommend it is for laptops with only one HDD slot. Small SSD and a regular HDD will be better every time.

Intel's Z68/Z77 SSD caching or third-party solutions are miles better.

I don't have OCZ Revo Hybrid, so can't tell for a fact, but in current state it's most suitable as a drive for games, NOT a system drive. Using a pure SSD for system and the OCZ for games should work well, in theory at least.

Solid state drives are perfect when you don't plan on installing to many things on your computer. However, if you know you are going to install a lot of games and stuff to your computer, a traditional drive is better. I have quite a few games (mostly older ones) installed on my plus a lot of mods. I have 609 GB of free space on my laptop, out of the 990 GB it came with (it came with 3 drives, so, that's why it has so much space). However, I wish that some day, they combine the SSD's performance with the traditional drive's storage capacity. That would satisfy most gamer's needs..

Well for anyone curious on how well they last/life expediency and all that? Here's my OCZ Vertex which is a first generation SSD, Nearly 900 power on counts, with almost 8600 hours in use, full page file on the drive(12GB). The drive itself started out on Windows XP(x64), then went to Windows 7 with a secure wipe/repartition/reformat to deal with the partition alignment issue. I've got another 60GB SSD I use just for games that have nasty load times(Shogun2, a few MMO's that type of stuff).

Though to be honest, it's about due for a secure wipe. I've been putting off doing a flash to the 1.7 firmware for over two years because I like the 1.6.

Raw smart data for anyone actually interested.

Oooh, I have that same drive with my OS and >10KHrs on it. Great drive. Well, great after flashed to 1.6.

Yeah the 1.6fw is a really nice. I've got another box that's going to Win8 which is my work machine and has the same drive on it as well, which will be getting the 1.7fw update when it all goes over. If it looks good I might update this one too.

  • 2 weeks later...

ended up getting a 128gb Crucial M4. realized i didnt need a 256gb. its in my laptop right now, eventually it will go into my desktop (along with a 1tb HDD)

loving the fast boot times. really make installing windows less of a pain with all the restarting i had to do.applications load fater, but i honestly dont notice because i dont start too many applications, and the ones i do start dont have long load times to begin with. ill load up FONV later, a game i know has some long load times, both at start up and during the game, and see if i notice any difference.

Good choice, have you updated to the latest firmware yet?

It is an easy process that only takes a few minutes, the drive will preform badly or crash if you don't have the latest firmware.
