anjenthedog
So, I wander lot in Skyrim. I just got done killing a dragon and was walking around looking for ore deposits and interesting locations, and I stumbled on a path leading up into the mountains that led me here. Curious if anyone knows the back story. I did a widenet search but found nothing.
showler
Do you have any mods that add extra map markers? Looks like it's supposed to be just an unmarked location.

I have Atlas map markers v1.0. Maybe that's it. In my game, it's neither unmarked or unpopulated (about a dozen bandit types), nor is that other red outlined location (Mammoth herd, and a small Wooly Rhino herd, the latter from Immersive Creatures I think)
showler
I remember finding some loot up there, and an unexplained dead body, but the UESP map shows nothing of interest.
anjenthedog
Well, I'm stumped anyway. Unable to save anything after I killed all the bandits (Hey they attacked me!) , so although I've backtracked to a save that works, and allows successful saves, I'm concerned about visiting the area again until I know what I'm up against. It almost feels like I killed off some crucial NPC (some orc chief's son is implicated in most of the error reports from failed loads). Too bad...it was a good (enjoyable) shortcut to the rift from the Cyrodil border on foot (which is how I prefer to travel)
Wererommel
Looks like it might be on the Bruma map.
anjenthedog
Afaik, it's not. It's on the main Skyrim map, using otherwise unoccupied "highlands" areas of the normally inaccessible map. (ie, beyond the normal playarea border but still within "Skyrim proper", high up, but still this side of the mountain range that separates the two regions) I have a working save now, made prior to finding it, so if I end up there again, I'll be more cautious when I'm near the bandit camp to avoid any "Bloodshed". The nearby location is worth it though (from a "discovery" perspective). About a half dozen or so mammoth and another ~dozen woolly rhinos here and there nearby
anjenthedog
OK. Solved. Ironically enough, I just now found out that ... Spoiler for more Dead Man's Rock is a quest objective added by the Folkstead and the Border of Hammerfell expansion.I must have screwed things up by discovering it before its time. It appears I'm going to talk to someone there.
