"An Extension Will Be Updated"

I have been playing Skyrim SE offline since Nov. 11 to avoid the updates, which would totally ruin my existing game. (I also blocked updates on Steam.) Today, for the first time, I got a Vortex notice "An Extension Will Be Updated). It didn't ask me if I wanted anything updated (in which case the answer would be NO). At the same time, I got a notice from MalwareBytes that it had blocked an "exploit" from Vortex. To be safe, I rebooted the whole computer, and then the same thing happened again. What's going on? Why is Vortex adding exploits to my machine? And how do I get it to stop?

No, updates aren't optional because we can't afford spending hundreds of hours sifting through invalid reports about bugs we already fixed because some users decided to pay for malware.

I swear there needs to be a special level of hell for these "Anti"virus developers.

In case this wasn't clear: Your problem isn't Vortex, it's MalwareBytes. Uninstall it, shoot it into the sun, complain to *those* developers and demand your money back because they sold you broken software. Then get a sane AntiVirus tool like - umm - as soon as someone releases one. I guess based on this: https://www.av-comparatives.org/tests/false-alarm-test-september-2021/

Microsoft defender, avast, AVG and kaspersky are almost acceptable.

But look at that shite, avira detects python as a virus? ESET and Malwarebytes detects competing AV tools as viruses? How is that even legal?

(The above is my personal opinion, not necessarily representing Nexus Mods here, just want to make that clear)

its funny, i've had malwarebytes on my systems for a decade - never, not once, not ever, has it ever flagged anything from vortex as malware.

this isn't the first time this user has had this issue - so that makes me wonder about the state of the users system and how they have malwarbytes configured. after all, the same program, running the same checks should flag up the same result everywhere, if the code itself is truly malware no?

Going on the tinfoil hat attitude the user has about blocking various updates, i wonder about the state of their system and the software on it.

My take, based on nothing other than this thread and previous threads from this user - this user is causing their own issues through some weird lack of trust issues, be it Steam, Vortex or anything else.

Want to stop stuff like this happening? Really simple. Keep your system updated.

I can guarantee, that you, the end user, do not know enough about updates for software on your systems, to decide if an update should be applied or not. Therefore just apply it and get it done. Until you do that, expect outlier reports like this, understand why they're outliers and take the appropriate steps to ensure your software - all software is 100% up to date, then see if you can repeat the alarm.

I don't care for whataboutery on this issue. Keep your systems updated and save yourself a world of pain, or, if your lack of trust is that far gone, why are you on the internet at all?
