NPC gathering loot

Well... You know, marauding is an essential part of any war. So I would like if there was a mod which would make npcs gather loot from the dead enemies lying around. If not armor and weapons than at least gold, food and potions.

I don't have a clue how to do it myself, but I do know that SkyTEST allows predator animals to loot meat off of corpses, and prey animals to harvest some ingredients... that might be a place to start for anyone who wants to take this on.

I was just thinking about this at work today. I was thinking that if a bandit kills me, they should be able to loot my armor and wear it after I die. So the last thing I see after I die is a bandit stripping me naked, putting on my armor and leaving my body to rot.

I think dragons should be able to loot my body as well. Not that they need my loot but if I can take a dragon's soul, the least the dragon's can do is take my clothes or armor. :armscrossed:

There is a scene that takes place in Riften where a random thief is caught stealing and is killed by the guards. Then for as long as the body is present various NPCs that pass by stoop down as if they were taking something from the thief.

Might be a place to start as far as pulling some of the necessary mechanics.

That's already one of the vanilla game mechanics... >_> It's not a special event. If someone dies, nearby NPCs are able to come by and crouch to loot the body for themselves, but it does not remove anything from the actual corpse anyways, so it's only for like, immersion purposes.

Also, the thief action in Riften is random event as well, it can happen from time to time...

Yes, but whomever works on implementing this idea can look into that for such things as animations. Other than that one instance in Riften I have never seen an NPC even pretend to pick something up from any other dead actor. They'd rather just stare at it. Occasionally they'll lament on what a waste the NPC's death was.

As far as actually taking something... There would need to be a form list with pre-defined items that an NPC should be willing to take. Then when the NPC looks at the dead actor, the dead actor's inventory is compared to what is on the form list, first matching item gets taken.

It is a shame that there is no way to just get the contents of a specific container and randomly transfer one of those items. Closest one could get is to have the dead actor's inventory transferred out to a container and two form lists built from those items, then the items transferred back equipping anything as necessary. Then when another NPC comes to loot, a random # between 0 and the size of the list minus 1 is rolled, whatever item is at the resultant index is removed. Then to reset the list for the next looting NPC, one of the form lists is reverted and rebuilt using the other list and comparing what is still in the dead actor's inventory. Probably doable if all the actors could be appropriately aliased. Tho I don't know what kind of strain it might have on the system.
