Zorkaz
Has anyone managed to have a separate version of Fallout 4 installed?Would be useful for testing out clean versions of some projects
Guest deleted34304850
i'm not sure if thats possible - may be if you have the gamepass version and the steam version -but couldn't you achieve the same with a profile in your mod manager that contains only the vanilla game files? i use that for my own mod testing and it works well enough - but as i dont develop or create mods that may not be sufficient for you? niston
You can use NTFS Junction Points if the game is installed on a drive formatted with NTFS file system.I've done this so I could keep my old game while setting up a completely independent, new installation. The way it works is, I have two "real" folders for the main game folder, the folder in My Games and the one in App.Data.One kind has a .old suffix, the other has .new.A set of Junction points then link either to one or the other kind of folders. For example, */steamapps/common/Fallout4 (junction point) points to either */Fallout4.old (real folder) or */Fallout4.new (real folder). I made a small tool that allows me to quickly switch the junction points over. I can upload the c# source for you, but it's very crude and you'll have to adapt it to work on your machine. As for test installs, CG! from AAF fame has made a tool that will purge anything that is not strictly vanilla from game folders. So it kinda wipes the slate clean, without having to reinstall the game files.I planned to use it for the test install with the greyed out button - but never actually got around to do it. PJMail
I too would like a link to that cleanup script - I am often creating a 'clean' instance for mod testing and am never quite sure what outside of the standard script/meshes/textures/materials/interface directories I can safely delete. dizietemblesssma
How is this not solved by profiles in a mod manager? diziet
Zorkaz
Mod Managers are solutions for consumers, not for creators. Having loose scripts (Especially fragments) and textures is a given when creating lots of stuff.Hence a second clean version can be very useful, when testing the finished product

dizietemblesssma
I'm sure you kow best but I can get a clean version of my games in Vortex with just one click, 'purge', bam its clean:)A profile can be created with no enabled mods, also clean. Is there perhaps a confusion over the definition of the word 'clean? diziet
