New to Scripting

I've got this thread posted up on the JIP discord to widen the base.

I get 1d arrays there just lists but 2d, nope.

Well this thread is long and complex for the new reader to understand ... plus the title is to open ended.

So for particular help on arrays ... I strongly suggest a new thread with matching title , then post that also or instead on discord.

I was hoping we'd get some more people in to get a broader range of subjects.

I'm leaving 2d arrays alone for now, I thought I could use them to speed up some things.

Now onto making my mod aware of other mods without being reliant, i.e. not a master. Fun fun fun.

Well the title of this thread does not reflect your prowess presently ... or maybe it never did ?

So in asking about arrays with the title in mind

Saying you are new to scripting , conjures thoughts like ... you might not understand an "OnActivate" block ... and that it will only run the script for 1 frame.

And so the common problem arises of thinking you can call a function to get a parameter , that you can then issue a command based on the return. Which really needs 2+ frames in a lot of instances .

And my speciality is in figuring out how to get that 2nd ,3rd frame etc ... without going full bore GameMode.

And other such methods doing stuff not readily apparent ... cuz the geck really can roll over and play dead as they initially claimed ... hehe .

With the new tools and more powerful scripting ... I think people tend to miss out on the old original variety of getting from A to B.

And especially with some peoples need to keep things nice and tidy , instead of just letting the animal that is the engine do its thing.

Just my observation and opinion ... which is probably limited and not worth much :ninja:

Never. Played. IT.

I, I don't know what to say. I feel hollow, empty, betrayed even.

No collab just testing in mind. Hopefully when you do get round to NV and then TTW my mod will actually be finished and you can try it .

I know you meant this as jokey (feeling betrayed) ?

But it does make me feel I need to explain.

I've been playing a few games before this one where inventory management becomes a big part of the game for me ... I guess because I have a hoarding trait in my real life character ? Can't say if this game is worse , probably more like a cumulative experience over all these games.

Plus also I am drawn to the modding aspect in games ... before this one was StarCraft , then Delta Force ... which this one is way beyond those.

So I played Fo3 all the way through once in 2012 , which was my first Fallout game. Then became familiar with the GECK.

So ever since then ... all I really do is spend my time on using the geck instead of actually playing the game.

Hence I am playing the Geck .... people come up with ideas on what they want to make happen game side , which they are the quest givers.

And I then go explore the Geck dungeon on how to make that happen.

Ran out of Fo3 quest givers ... so I had to move to FNV ... which I eventually decided I couldn't do it without having FNV even though their similarities.

Because I usually have to go test it out to know what I am saying actually works.

I do play short bursts of the game besides testing modding ... but it just doesn't hold my attention enough to see it through.

I'd rather be back here on the forums getting a new quest to go play the geck ;)

An interesting approach, you may want to play through once just to get the differences between FO3 and NV. The DLC's alone offer much story, new approaches and interesting characters.

For me, once I've managed to get a mod out the door, I'm thinking of going back to some of the forgotten FO3 mods and port them over to TTW. There are a few I used to use that could really be good with the NV engine.

Muh HA ! ... I knew you couldn't be new to scripting .

I feel so betrayed

LOL kidding ... But hmm I guess that might be a better approach to getting people to look at and comment on questions I have.

Cuz I very rarely get anybody to give a hoot when I post a question.

Let me know if I should delete this ... ? :ninja:

Oh ya to mention ... I always have in the back of my head that I have FNV to play ... don't need to go find a new game when I get the itch to be game side.

Not sure when that will happen ? Also I have been playing little bits here and there , diff chars cuz the start is crucial usually.

And I'm slow , taking my time ... so what ever they say the hours to play FNV are ... I probably need X5 that.

YES, I'm secretly an expert modder, posing as a partially educated dumb-dumb. You got me. Let me just fix that comment,

Nothing wrong with taking your time. NV has a lot of fun nuances to find.

Well don't let that stage fright barrier stop ya .

If you need an ice breaker ... just do some stupid thing ... quick simple start game mod .

Then if you want ... delete it later ... but if you gave some sort of a hoot in the first place ... probably fine just leaving it.
