GHETTOHOOPSTAR
This is odd. Okay, I have a Base Conjuration Ring +6 which gives Me a total Conjuration of 54 (48 without ring). I want to cast Skeleton Guardian which requires You to be at conjuration 50. I have enough magika to cast but I get a message saying My skill level is too low. If this is the case; then what the Hell is the point of having skill boosting items?!? I don't know if I may have installed a mod or two that messed with this. I'm not playing vanilla. Anyone??? P.S. Apologies if this thread isn't in the correct category... Edited April 4, 2022 by GHETTOHOOPSTAR
qwertyasdfgh
Boosting skill with magic typically doesn't give skill perks, so you need your base Conjuration to be at 50 to cast that spell. You still get the decrease in spell cost from equipping skill-boosting item. GHETTOHOOPSTAR
Sigh, one of the many faults and marks of the lazily made, rushed game that is Oblivion. This one seems to be rather blatant and stupid though... So what's the point in even equipping or holding on to these rings and other apparel if the point bonuses They give Me are non-existent? I just insta-sell them. Is there a mod that allows the stat boosts I receive to actually affect My character as They should? Why should I even need a mod for this?... Oblivionaddicted
The skill fortifications are nearly always useless https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Fortify_Skill

ArmlessWunder
I mean, there's lots of games with trash modifiers on items. The idea is that you have to be able to distinguish a good one from bad. Not sure this is really a modding topic though >.> At any rate, its not technically useless bc it reduce spell cost of conjuration spells as already stated. You need to earn the perk by training your skill. Doesnt even take very long with conjuration especially. Cast summon skeleton over and over while watching TV. Make a custome spell that summons skeleton for 3 sec and cast over and over. Go to a trainer to increase your skill.
