colourwheel
As usual color, you missed my point. Think about it this way, imagine Bush was still President and the Amber alert system was closed and Laura Bush's website was still open, would you still be so forgiving? Be honest, you'd be ranting and raving. I know eight years ago if this happened, I would be pissed at Bush, so I'm not going to give Obama a free pass either just because he's a democrat. I think you should think about it... When a there is a government shutdown many programs will still be active until the programs totally run out of funds. Funds that have already been use and/or paid for to keep certain programs active. Obviously the Amber alert system probably ran dry last week meaning it's more expensive program to keep running than the "Let's Move" website. It's not like the Obama administration is purposely keeping the "Let's Move" website functioning in spite to undermine "the Amber alert system"... You should be outraged at John Boehner for not putting on the floor a clean continuing resolution when it is already known that it would pass with well over a majority of votes in the house. No president ( doesn't matter if it's bush or Obama) can do anything about continuing to fund the government unless the budget passes through the house and the senate 1st... If you are trying to blame Obama himself for this mess you haven't really made a good argument yet.... Edit: After doing a bit a research the Amber Alert system isn't actually shutdown, just the website is. http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/Amber-Alert-Website-Offline-Due-to-Govt-Shutdown-226702411.html If you are so concerned about abducted children be assured you can always check up on this website... http://www.missingkids.com/amberhttp://www.missingkids.com/amber Edited October 7, 2013 by colourwheel
HeyYou
According to the latest polls, by various organizations, (including fox news.....) people are indeed laying the blame at the feet of the republican party. Every poll shows that to one extent or other. Wonder if the republicans have figured out yet that they are cutting their own throats here.
colourwheel
This weekend John Boehner went on ABC claiming the house does not have enough votes to pass a clean continuing resolution. White House senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer asked Monday this morning on Twitter “If there are not votes to open the government as Speaker Boehner says, why is he so afraid to call the vote and prove it?” MSNBC has publically accounted for at least 20 republicans and 200 Democrats who have been on the record saying that they would indeed vote to pass a clean continuing resolution if the bill was put on the house floor which is more than enough votes to pass.... It makes one wonder WTF is he doing? I think eventually the Republican party will throw the blame solely on John Boehner if he doesn't eventually bring a clean bill to the house floor for a vote.... HeyYou
What you suggest certainly gives the tea party an "out", should things go wrong, and they start looking for someone to blame..... Really wouldn't surprise me at all. Saw Obama on the tube today..... and ignored him. More politicking going on there, suggesting that the dems actually asked the repubbies to the table several times, and were turned down, and several more times to discuss the budget, and were also turned down. Any truth to that? I sure don't know. I have given up (long ago) expecting to hear the truth from a politician.

Any truth to that? I sure don't know. I have given up (long ago) expecting to hear the truth from a politician. This is actually true... over 6 months ago the senate passed a budget while the house had their thumbs up their butt wasting time trying to repeal the Affordable care act over and over again. John Boehner never brought the bill to the floor even after the Democrats requested over 17 times calling for a conference committee in debating over a new budget. Each time Boehner kept denying them a conference committee even after they agreed to spending as low as the Paul Ryan budget... Most people who don't pay very close attention to politics understands what has been happening the past year in congress. Almost all the new bills passed this year alone have been to rename post offices... Our hard working tax paying dollars for a bunch of idiots to work an average of less than 3 days a week just to rename post offices. Must be nice to be a congressman making $175,000 a year by our tax dollars for shutting down the government... HeyYou
Yeah, Think I need to run for office...... :D And the republicans don't ever mention that... although, I thought all spending bills were to originate in the house? Does that not include the budget? I keep seeing the R's whining and complaining about 'no budget for five years', and various other things of that nature. I still see them calling Obama a muslim, traitor, not born here, various racial slurs... it really isn't any wonder that the R's refuse to cooperate/negotiate/compromise with him at all... unless they are held at gunpoint. Now, the R's are holding the entire country at gunpoint, jumping up and down screaming "MY WAY, OR WE WILL CRASH THE ECONOMY!".... wonderful. As we all here (at my residence) rely on socail security for the bulk of our income..... we could be in a world of hurt in short order should the government default...... makes me a little nevous. Of course, I don't want to see the dems in control of all three branches at this point either. They have some ideas that just REALLY rub me the wrong way. Not to mention I don't think they have a clue how to fix the economy either...... Edited October 8, 2013 by HeyYou
colourwheel
@HeyYou The reason why they don't ever mention it is because they would look like total fools... Fox News this weekend couldn't help but report on a false story to distract from the reality of the mess their party is in... http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/erik-wemple/wp/2013/10/07/fox-friends-fails-on-obama-muslim-museum-connection-no-surprise-here/ I mean seriously? Obama uses his own money to open up a Muslim museum amid government shutdown? Seems more like they just wished the story was true. Anything to envoke hate towards the president to distract the real issue... For the record the reason why they pay people to guard the World War II Memorial is to make sure people don't vandalize the place not to purposely keep people out over spite... Beriallord
The government has had non-essential services shut down for 9 days, and I'd bet a lot of people don't even know it. Meaning its not effecting their lives in any way, shape or form. The sun rose and set for 9 days already, and the sky isn't falling. This whole thing is being overblown, and its not nearly as serious as people are making it out to be. State and local governments can function without the Federal government. Edited October 9, 2013 by Beriallord
colourwheel
State and local governments can function without the Federal government. Depends on what state you live in... http://www.foxbusiness.com/government/2012/08/03/states-that-get-most-federal-money/ Just wait till your state runs dry of federal funds and see how "functionable" your state would be without federal funding.... In my state I know the real estate market has been paralyzed. This alone drastically effects the local economy in the long term... HeyYou
It isn't a full shutdown either. A fair few government services are still up and running, and congress, in their infinite wisdom, have reopened some others. The republicans are now saying that the shutdown is inconsequential, and it is impossible for the nation to default on its soverign debt, that the government has the money to pay it. They seem to think that there is enough revenue for the fed to pay its bills. My question would be, if that is the case, why are we continually going further into debt? According to the republicans, we have plenty of money........ So why are they screaming from the hilltops that we need to cut spending? If everything is 'ok', what's the emergency? Why shut down the government at all? This is just more political BS. The republicans are now pissing on my head, and trying to convince me it's raining. Our dysfunctional government has become even MORE dysfunctional than it was. Something I didn't think was even possible. I know, lets get the popcorn, and peanuts, and pull up a front row seat to watch the end of our country as we know it. Maybe it won't be such a bad thing....... especially if we see some major changes in government on the other side. Provided there IS the other side.
