Osiris
Suz, I played EVE for about 3 months and I have to say it was a beautiful game. I agree the roleplay deffinatly is there, but in a different sense since you are commanding space vessels and not armor clad warriors. The biggest drawback for me, and one of the reasons I stoped playing, is the skills system. For anyone who's never played it, instead of working toward your skills while you play, you buy the skill at a station and it takes a certain amount of RL time for it to be learned. You can be off or online but the time required gets to be a little extreme at the higher levels. For example, to get the Frigates IV skill, iirc, it takes about 3-4 weeks of real-life earth time for your character to gain the skill. Other than that, I enjoyed the game. The graphics are top-notch, though if you look closesly they're rather simple but for some reason the overall effect is great. I especially liked the lighting of the sun(s) while you traveled around a solar system. And there are thousands of solar systems. The game does take a good amount of patience, it has many slow areas but here and there you have some heart-pounding action. And it really is because you know if you lose the fight, your ships gone and you'll have to purchase another. To experience the game fully, its a must to be in a good roleplay guild or it will get boring fast, and it eventually still did for me. Great music too. Now I'm getting that nostalgic feeling and oh, yes here comes the urge to go play it <_< EQ2 is a great game also, and so far I haven't seen any of the problems I've had with other MMO's that have lead me to quit them. Ah, yes, my urge to go play EQ2 just overcame my EVE urge.
Zmid
I found Eve Online rather good as well, but, unfortunately, it didn't have a long term appeal for me. It's unfortunate because it does actually require a long commitment to get the most from Eve, as you start off as a virtually penniless noob who knows nothing in a tiny ship a strong sneeze could destroy armed with weapons that just about scratches the paintwork of any other ship, and there's a hell of a lot you can do in Eve. There is a lot of scope for roleplaying in Eve, as you can be a bounty hunter, miner, trader, manufacturer, mercenary, pirate, etc, etc, etc, but one thing I did notice was that group play, as opposed to soloing, was heavily encouraged. As for Everquest 2, although I haven't played it, from what I've seen, that looks as if it could very well be a damn good game. One comment I do have to make about it - it's the first game I've seen that comes on two DVDs
Slaiv
And I still don't have a DVD drive. *Goes off to buy one.* Eve looks absolutely beatiful, but, from other's opinions, it doesn't seem as if it would appeal to me. Not because of how slow it is - I just don't like the insane amounts of micromanagement that come from MMORPGs, and Eve seems as if it beasts all others in those terms.
