Better Cities Anvil Crash

I seem to be having an utterly bizarre crash in my game around the Anvil area. Basically, I'm using the Alternate start mod when you arrive by boat, and I choose to start in Anvil docks. I managed to get this crash happen every time I followed this path; I follow the docks around outside of Anvil, following the outer wall of the city. When I get onto the road with the ruins which are on your right, the game then crashes. Sometimes I get to the fork in the road, and sometimes its just after passing the bridge leading to Castle Anvil, but its always at this point. If I wait for ages after starting and then follow this route, it still happens. If I instead choose to start in Leyawiin or Imperial City, I don't get any crashes, even after 15 minutes of wandering about. But here's the really bizarre thing; if I approach the road from the OTHER side, as in walk through Anvil, come through the gate and approach from the west, it doesn't crash. I've narrowed it down to Better Cities causing the issue, because when that is disabled the crash stops completely. I would really like to know what the issue may be, because I can't play the game knowing that this may cause other random crashes elsewhere in the game.

I am also using HGEC Body and DarN DarkUI. They only came in OMOD format, and I needed the wizard from OMM.
EDIT: After further testing I found it actually does crash if I come from the other side of Anvil, it just takes about an extra minute of wandering around and has no particular pattern from that side. Still doesn't crash when wandering around Leyawiin or Imperial City. Also, I'm using Qarl's Texture Pack, although I don't see how it can be a memory issue; I'm running the game on a 660GTX which has 2GB of VRAM, and in addition have an i5 Quad Core at 3.4GHz and 16GB of RAM.

At worst disable a bunch ofm ods, check if the problem remains etc

Install the Oblivion 4GB patch if you haven't already. That 660GTX may have 2GB of V-RAM, it probably works on drivers from the stone age that don't fully agree with your OS, or you should be running on XP 32-bits. Also don't stare yourself blind on the abilities of your hardware. Oblivion is from 2006 and made on the Gamebryo engine which gets weak in the knees pretty fast when throwing HD textures at it in combination with a truckload of plugins. Technically, the game can support up to 255 plugins but the engine is limited to around 130 and will even start acting funny before that.

 

But in this case I suspect that not enough V-RAM is at the basis of the crash. Better Cities can be greedy with RAM. I also see that the Better Cities esp is sitting way up the load order. Add it to the bottom of your load order with the other Better Cities plugins. Do that first and see what gives.
