Are you asking for help or simply making a report? If the former, please direct your questions to the appropriate support forum. Since you mention a "purge button," I assume that you're talking about Vortex. Therefore you'll want to raise your issue in the Vortex Support Forum.

let me ask you this;

in your mind, what does "purge" mean?

no googling for answers, i'd like to know what you think it means and why you pressed the button.

Vortex's purge feature would not have caused the issue in your screenshot. Purge simply removes the links.

What it looks like happened is that you deleted everything in your game folder, then Vortex said "hey, I noticed you deleted a bunch of files, do you want to save this change?" you then clicked "yes" and it removed the files from the staging folder that you had deleted from the game folder.

It may be too late now, but if that's not what happened I recommend reporting it via the in-app feedback option and including a log file.

who on earth would do that? i mean, just, seriously, why would anyone do that?

Actually, based on reports - quite a few people.

That is probably a special case Vortex should handle. Don't merge back deleted changes that empty a mod.

At least put up a special warning: "This action will delete all contents for this mod. Continue?"

seriously - that's just nuts.

i mean if you delete the contents of your mods folder then purge - what other outcome is possible?

Vortex does already say "You're about to delete 5,1234 files, are you sure?" if it's removing a significant number of files during this step.
