quartet1977
Hi, I've been trying out new body replacers (babe, type v, dimon, enhanced children, etc.). Now, I have a problem I don't know how to fix. Here's a pic:http://i604.photobucket.com/albums/tt122/quartet1977/Fallout32009-04-1708-42-37-46.jpgCan anyone tell me what might be causing this? The skin tones on the body and face/neck don't match, and I'd like to fix that. Thanks in advance!
Dragarr
That is the mesh seam, as far as I know it is not possible to fix being a hard coded part of how the game works. It is a hate that has continued on from Oblivion. Years modders have been trying to fix it but as yet unsuccessful.

I thought that adding "bLoadFaceGenHeadEGTFiles=1" to your "FALLOUT.ini" fixed that issue... If it doesn't...then what does it actually do...? TGBlank
I thought that adding "bLoadFaceGenHeadEGTFiles=1" to your "FALLOUT.ini" fixed that issue... If it doesn't...then what does it actually do...?That fixes uberly different skin tones, but seamlines remain on neck, wrists, legs and ankles. It has plagued us since oblivion, no fix.To actually fix it, we'd a breakthrough in mesh exporting tools (yes, it's a limitation on the tools). As a (permanent) jury-rig, use necklaces, chockers, slaver collars and whatnot.
Skree000
the seam is totally fixable. Trust me. requires alot of tweaking and work, but its doable. those seams appear because of differences in the Color, normal and spec maps at the site of the seam itself. These issues can be most easily remedied by capturing the textures being used, exporting them, projecting them on a mesh of the body in Bodypaint or Deeppaint, then simply either project seamfix patches of skin across the troublespot, or paint an ambiguous low-contrast value such as the base flesh color. For the normal map, the proper 'neutral' value should be painted across the seam and fading into the extremities in either direction. This color is RGB-127,127,255 (alternatively try 128,128,255)Alternative to Bodypaint or Deep-Paint, one could use photoshop but that would take alot of trial and error, tweaking then testing to make sure it looks right. (painting directly on your model has alot of advantages) The next step would be the tricky part, forcing the game to use just your desired texture for both head and neck. I havent delved yet into bodmods myself, but I would assume that as long as the head and body are from the same mesh, they would therefore have the same material, and therefore be seamless. If not, I would check out the existing vanilla textures, then compare to the textures on your modded bodymod textures. Check for discrepencies in the neck-seam regions on both spec, norm and color maps. Look for the values they use. See if you can make comparable results in the textures you made. (assuming you made the mod/textures yourself)
JimboUK
I use this the collars and necklaces can hide the seam and the break between the neck and shoulders makes the colour difference less obvious.
TGBlank
@Skree000Problem is a little more complex than that i'm afraid. With extreme effort, you could make ONE character look good, but the npc next to you will still have seamlines, and it would be a customization for your very own skin tone.We need better nif tools to truly fix seamlines. Dragarr
...I would assume that as long as the head and body are from the same mesh...Unfortunatly that is one of the problems. While the head and body share the same skeleton they use different nif files, which means they are coloured and lighted seperatly.
