GamerRick
Whenever Steam hiccups Oblivion will no longer run. First I will get a Steam pop-up telling me that Oblivion is already running. I have to open Windows Task Manager and kill the process rundll32.exe *32 Then I try to start Oblivion again and get to the first screen, where I press PlayNothing happens. So, I open Task Manager and kill Oblivion.exe *32 Then I can start Oblivion, press Play, and get to the main screen and play the game. This happens probably 3 times a week. It always happens if I restart Steam or Steam restarts itself with an update, but it can also happen without any sign from Steam. Though, possibly related, I have been getting messages from Steam that it can't sync my save files right now, and I just press the Play Anyway button and play on (and no this Steam messages does not cause the problem to occur and I've only seen it maybe 3 time so far in the past few weeks.) Anyone else have this happen? Do, you have to fix it each time the say I described?
IcelandicPsychotic
Have you disabled the Steam overlay? It always caused me problems with Oblivion. If that doesn't help try asking on the Steam forums for Oblivion. Maybe somebody has run into the same problem.
Guest deleted2027229
Getting the GOG version would solve all your problems, it is the definitive version of the game - https://www.gog.com/game/elder_scrolls_iv_oblivion_game_of_the_year_edition_deluxe_the Edited September 17, 2022 by WanderRA
GamerRick
I have steam-overlay off. I learned about GoG with FO3 and FNV. I much prefer playing games without Steam.
