People Who Hated on Fallout The Frontier...

Just stumbled on a review video about it and one of the criticisms I heard was that they think it's like Call of Duty...

Bruh...

Lonesome Road is like Call of Duty though. Don't pretend it isn't. It is. You just walk from A to B until you get to the end of each section. You can explore a tiny bit to find some uniques but it's not the traditional Fallout open-world with loads of NPC's and choices.

And why is it bad to even have a mod with the style of Call of Duty if it's fun?

Why did YouTubers slander the mod over like 1% of it?

Like, people literally found a condom in the mod and acted like karens over it. Rofl. Who even cares? Yeah, it's weird but it was obviously put there as a joke. I'd have laughed if I saw it, personally. I'd have been like "Why is there a condom?" and laughed, then moved on to play the rest of the mod.

Most normal people downloaded the mod and just laughed or cringed at the awkward bits because it's a mod... They didn't throw a tantrum and make a whole YouTube video trying to destroy it just because it has some dialogue they don't like... I mean, who even does that? xD

I'm just so confused. It genuinely confuses me that people got this triggered over a condom in a mod that would've just been patched out when people reported it, and some awkward fetish dialogue that could've been polled to change.

Nonetheless, I still enjoyed the criticism video because it's funny.

Of course the condom and fetish dialogue is a facepalm but sheesh, was it actually that serious?

Boy are you going to be surprised when you see some "reviews" for Fallout 4. Or Fallout 3. Or Skyrim. Or Oblivion. Or most games released in the last thirty years.

These people get views by being jerks in their reviews and therefore money. That's the sum of it.

That said, there are some legitimate bad reviews of Fallout: The Frontier, most of which put the blame where it belongs. The project was never run properly. It desperately needed a Lead Designer who could make decisions on the mod as a whole. And it needed a set of guiding rules for the project along with making it clear that contributions could not be withdrawn unless those rules were violated. A project where individuals can hold the whole project hostage by threatening to withdraw key elements is doomed to failure.

I kinda see it a lot with YouTubers, to be honest. They do negative reviews and only have 1 or 2 things that are legit, then they add some nonsense like calling something bad because it shares storytelling similar to Call of Duty...

It manipulates people into thinking "Hey! Yeah! That's not what Fallout is!" despite Lonesome Road existing which is way more similar to Call of Duty's level design than Frontier. Nothing's wrong with having a level design like that though, I enjoy it.

I agree about the guidelines though, it would've helped to avoid the backlash about lore and sexual dialogue to have set some rules. Thing is, all the criticism people had with the mod could've been fixed through appropriate feedback, not taking it to YouTube and manipulating a large portion of the community into review bombing it... I bet the devs felt so betrayed.

This group of talented game developers put thousands of hours of learning and working into this huge project only to have it trashed by YouTubers nitpicking entirely fixable areas of the mod. That's what I find so grotesque about the negative YouTube reviews, everything was fixable without having to attack it so publicly.

On a side note:

My favorite YouTuber for reviewing quest mods is Alchestbreach. He's so humble. ^-^
