Tutorial Request: Mod Managers

Can anyone who had the time either type out a full, idiot proof, tutorial on how to use these? Using them to install and manage mods has been difficult for some reason even though it should be plain and simple.

I use the GOG version of the game, so maybe that has something to do with it, or I'm just unsavvy with modding this game.

Hello stranger, I can provide some help.

First, get the following utility programs:

Next. Sort out OBSE stuff manual. OBSE for GOG. Drop obse_loader.exe into game's directory with Oblivion.exe.

Navigate to Data folder, create a folder called OBSE, in that folder create another called Plugins

In this folder you can put OBSE plugins like

  • Alt Tab Fix
  • Block Head
  • Con Scribe
  • Console Paste
  • Console Numpad
  • Elys
  • Engine Bug Fixes
  • Faster Sleep Wait
  • Fast Exit 2
  • Loot Menu (requires LINK mod)
  • MenuQue
  • Message Logger
  • Mod Limit Fix
  • Pluggy
  • Enhanced Camera
  • Sky BSA
  • Oblivion Stutter Removal
  • Walk Blessed

Now using Wrye Bash, install the Unofficial Patches. Can use TES4EditQuickAutoClean.exe for cleaning 'em. Wrye Bash tutorials on YouTube.

WryeBash - For 2K textures, I recommend:

With modding, there is a lot of trial and error. Reading mod descriptions. Getting compatibility patches. Mod cleaning to improve performance. Some mods more demanding, some are less so.

WryeBash - Personally, I have others like:

  • Weather All Natural
  • Unique Landscapes Compilation + compatibility patch
  • Immersive Interiors, Landscape Addon, Bruma, Imperial, Fixes patch
  • Kvatch Rebuilt
  • Oblivion Character Overhaul v2 + Oblivion Character Overhaul v2 Advanced Edition
  • DarN BAIN wizard + Additions - Darnified UI for interface
  • Dynamic Map Pack
  • Display Stats
  • LINK (for Loot Menu)
  • Loot Menu
  • Mini Map
  • Pick Me
  • Quest Log Manager
  • Splash Screen Overhaul
  • Keychain
  • Better Saves
  • Companion Vilja
  • Dialogue Idles
  • NPCs keep weapons on death
  • Faster Horse Dismount
  • Quest NPCs run
  • Baurus Essential (my own mod)
  • Faster Dungeon Doors
  • Better Scroll Background
  • Goblin Tribes Fixed
  • Oblivion XP Update

It's over a decade since I used Wrye Bash so I am not exactly sure how or what happened but it deleted my work. If I remember, I installed Wrye Bash, started working on my new mod, installed another mod and 'poof' all of my mod files had bee permanently deleted. If I remember, I then tried to register a new folder and esp on it but it still deleted my changes after several hours of work. How does an actual Mod Creator work with this tool?

I'm really sorry to hear this glowplug. Please don't "throw in the towel". Get back to modding. Keep a backup of important mod files. Perhaps OneDrive or Google Drive. You can also keep different file versions, with similar names. Example - MyModV1.esp. If you're a passionate modder, get back to it.
