matortheeternal
Hello, I just noticed something that seemed funny to me. http://puu.sh/5sAjc.png I'm specifically talking about the "© Copyright 2013, Robin Scott. All rights reserved." disclaimer, which immediately follows every mod's page on Nexus Mods. Legally speaking, this disclaimer is extremely ambiguous, and provides the impression that Robin Scott is claiming copyright for the mods present on Nexus Mods. I think it might be appropriate to reword this copyright disclaimer to say: "Nexus Mods was created by Robin Scott, © Copyright 2013. All rights reserved." Placing it lower on the page, after the footer, could clear things up even more. http://puu.sh/5sAvw.png^so down here at the bottom somewhere. Further copyright clarification should be made somewhere on the sites so that it is known that Robin Scott is not claiming copyright for modding content that is published on Nexus Mods, and that all mods published on Nexus Mods are the domain of the users who created them unless otherwise stated by the mod author on a case-by-case basis. //blah blah legal jargon here -Mator P.S. And this is important because otherwise a lawyer could come and say that all the users who submitted work to Nexus Mods were legally donating their work to Robin Scott for him to do with as he saw fit. ZeroKing
I can't answer for the placement of the Copyright Notice, but further clarification regarding ownership of content is clearly outlined in the Terms of Service, under Rules of adding/uploading/sharing content. Excerpt: Nexus Mods does not claim ownership of the content you provide to the Nexus or post, upload, input or submit on any Nexus site or its associated services for review by the general public, or by the members of any public or private community. Lisnpuppy
Rules of adding/uploading/sharing contentUser-generated content and the rights to removalNexus Mods staff have the right to remove any content at any time without warning or reason.Nexus Mods does not claim ownership of the content you provide to the Nexus or post, upload, input or submit on any Nexus site or its associated services for review by the general public, or by the members of any public or private community. However, by posting, uploading, inputting, providing or submitting ("Posting") content on the Nexus you are granting the Nexus a non-exclusive, world-wide, royalty-free license to: copy, distribute, transmit, publicly display, publicly perform, reproduce, edit, translate and reformat your content and to publish your username in connection with your content at our digression until such time as you manually remove the content yourself using the pre-provided tools or until such time that you send a request to the owners of the site for the content be removed. matortheeternal
Hmmm. Ok. I still think this should be specified on the main site, not just the forum. These Terms of Service, while they do claim to apply to all subdomains associated with nexusmods.com, are not linked to directly from http://skyrim.nexusmods.com, http://nexusmods.com/, or any of the other many nexus sub sites (as far as I can tell). I dunno, I just find it really odd to see a copyright statement immediately following modding content. It could be easily misconstrued, and that's never a good thing when it comes to legal shtuff. ZeroKing
Agreed. Perhaps a link to the Terms of Service on the Nexus main page would be a good idea, unless the format isn't handled by Robin, but IP Boards.
Dark0ne
The terms of service are linked to when you perform specific actions, e.g. posting comments or uploading files/images.
