MightyLink Posted May 19, 2009 Share Posted May 19, 2009 I am just wondering what the legal issue is with music mods, granted a lot of them are original creations but a lot of them are also movie and game ripps. When I tried to post a lotr mod it was deleted by buda. How come everyone else can post there 300 and thief and lotr and conan and tons of other music mods? If there are other music mods on the site right now then they haven't been given the green light and they should not be there; it's something users should be reported. Thanks. If you report it it will be investigated and if it is copyrighted material it will be deleted, just as I deleted the one you uploaded. This serves two purposes, it keeps the site out of possible legal entanglements, and protects you the uploader who can be held personally liable for loss of revenue to the copyright holders, and criminal culpability for your actions. The sites policy for copyright infringement is zero tolerance, and we are quite diligent in our duties. This is quite plainly stated in the terms of service, which you evidently did not read, but I am more than happy to post for you: The posting of copyrighted material, unless the copyright is owned by you or you have consent from the owner of the copyrighted material, is strictly prohibited on any Nexus site. Legal inquiries regarding copyright infringement are taken very seriously on Nexus sites and we will work with any legal body to identify and bring to justice anyone who might use a Nexus site to share copyrighted material. So please do report them and we will check them out. I believe I deleted one that you reported yesterday. If you don't want to use the report button, feel free to pm myself or LHammonds and we will check things out; that is why Dark0ne keeps us here and it is part of our responsibilities. LHammonds Posted May 21, 2009 Share Posted May 21, 2009 Yes, we have deleted many music uploads from this site. Keep in mind that none of us have a degree in music or copyright law related to music. Some things are quite easy to discern as being a violation such as music by Disney and Metallica because of all the lawsuits we see in the news regarding them. But others are not so obvious and we could use some help. So if you are reporting a music file, please point is to a location on the Internet that might shed some light on the legality of that particular song. We once had somebody go through and report each and every file in the music section with nothing other than the words "this is illegal" which was no help at all and we did not take the accusations seriously since no proof was given. Reporting one file as having illegal music and us taking our time to do the research is one thing but reporting tons of them without doing any research on your part will likely be ignored.
