I need advise...

Ok, my dad is getting his loan put through in a couple of weeks *we're hoping* and he is going to buy me an Hewlett Packard computer. Its about $1,100 so its not really crappy, but its not the best out there either. Anyways, he is getting my sister a laptop (HP also) because she doesnt do much gaming. My question is: Is it more worthwhile to get a desktop computer because you can do more gaming in the longrun, or get a laptop because its more... portable? Actually I have some more questions too... Which will last longer? The thing is that he is buying the computer for his house and my old one goes to my mom's house. I have the choice to: Not say anything and get my older computer at my moms house and get my new desktop hereor say something and get my old computer at my moms house and get the laptop here, but also where ever else I want to bring it. Another thing: Will a not-so-top of the line laptop run HL2? I'm probably getting that too. I have some more questions, but they have to be asked later because I have to go right now. Answer what you can, it is much appreciated and I will probably make my decision off of what everyone says.

Adras,

I would definitely go with the desktop if I were you. They are more stable and last longer (in my opinion) and offer you the wonders of scalability. By that I mean it is an easy (and generally inexpensive) thing to upgrade your desktop. The part are pretty much standard and you can give the 'ol compy quite a boost with a new shot of memory or an upgraded graphics card. This is harder and more expensive to do in a laptop.

Laptops are good for taking notes, writing papers and surfing the web on your balcony. When college rolls around for you, think about getting one. Most mid to low end laptops have crappy integrated graphics cards and 256K of memory. Hardly enough to push something like HL2. For now (unless your Dad is gullible and will buy Alienware) stick with a desktop.

As far as pc's go hp is not that bad of a pc :tongue2:

The factor 1:how much do you move around from home to home

factor 2:how much memory and type of grafix most laptop's will not play the newer game's.

factor3: mod's will you have enuf memory for the mods you like and able to play the high res game!

But in the end much talk about this could in the end confuse you even more than whan you started out!

Take your time in the final deshion cause once you made your choise you have to stick with it for as long as you own that pc! wish you the best of luck :wink2:

Well, he was going to build me one, but he doesnt want to take the time because we have to get our house finished.

I live at my mom's and I visit my dad every Tuesday, every other Thursday and every other weekend. So about half of the week on average.

I'm not sureof the specs of the HP, but I know it is much better than the one I am sitting at right now. The main reason I was thinking and not leaning towards the laptop is because its not really easily upgradable (as was said earlier). Unless something comes up and it somehow persuades me to get a laptop (which I doubt it will), I'll probably go with the desktop.
