In my house SNES is still hooked up and fully functional... I play it almost every night... and I don't give a rats ass that I've beat the majority of games for it... I still replay them over and over... Everyone is all about the emulators now... they don't give me the same feeling that a SNES controller in my hand does...

My first system was Atari... and it had sweet games... but to basic...

Ahh ya Street Fighter II totally rules. During the day of the SNES, even though I was little I was a fan of both the Mortal Kombat and the Street Fighter series.

so your saying you played them all (or 80% of them) and you say 7 is the best.

yes, i have played all of them except the first 3, and i merely said i liked 7 the most out of all the ones i have played, do you have a problem with that?

Coughs*impossible*coughs The old ones are the best and anyone who has the decency to play them in general agrees.

well i seem to think otherwise, dont just assume "anyone" will agree with you there.

I was never a fan of the arcade style fighting games... but I must say I really enjoyed Street Fighter... it was just a sweet game... sadly the movie sucked :/

Okay, I just skimmed the thread. I'm too tired to read everything.

I owned a SNES (two actually). In fact, I still have one stashed away someone. I still play games on ZSNES on occasion. However, we never had a lot of money so it was hard to get the cool games. I really wanted to get a copy of FFIV, but it was so hard to find anywhere that sold it. It was my first RPG.

My favourite games on the system, that I actually played on the console (not the emulator) were FFIV, FFVI, Super Mario World, Super Mario All Stars (loved the classics), Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Chrono Trigger, Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, F-Zero, and Super Metroid.

Most of those games are still great (the FFs, CT, Super Metroid, Zelda), but I'd like to add Star Ocean, Seiken Densetsu 3, and Bahamut Lagoon. I really only enjoy the RPGs now, with the occasional delve into the platformers.

SNES was NOT my first system. I can't remember if that honour belongs to NES or Atari 2600. I was young and my cousin had both systems. I've also used a Coleco.

Edit:

As for those arguing which Final Fantasy game is best, it's relative. Everyone's perspective is skewed by what they prefer in a game, what game they played first, etc. Many of us who love the old SNES (or even NES) ones best are biased because not only does the game hold an aspect of nostalgia for us, but we played these games with little thought towards graphics. When Final Fantasy VI came out, it had some of the nicest 2D artwork of any console game. Not to mention the musical score was excellent. The story was interesting and the game was easy to get in to.

If you started with a game like FF7 or FF8, it might be hard to get in to a 2D RPG. Personally, I think FF7 was great. It too was easy to pick up, had an excellent sound track, and an interesting story. At the time, it's graphics were simply amazing.

Square tries to do something new with every iteration of the Final Fantasy series:

2 implemented the idea of learning key words. I never finished this game, and it's been a while since I played it, so I don't remember what else it did. I'm pretty sure they changed the magic system from 1 though.

3 I don't know as I've never seen a translated version of it.

4 I don't think there was anything new in this game to tell you the truth. However, the story, although a little cheesy, was quite interesting. I also liked the uniqueness of the characters, rather than having the possibility of having all super characters that do the same thing.

5 brought about the idea of job classes - probably the single best system in the series (it's why I love Tactics so much :D)

6 gave us an excellent story, a new way of learning magic, Magitek armor, unique abilities for each character, and a huge variety of equipment, all of which makes this my favourite :D (there are a few things I'd change about this game, but nothing major)

Of course, 7 itself brought the series into the third dimension. The magic system was also beautiful (although I missed the idea of black, white, red, and blue mages).

8 emphasized the menu system, with it's very detailed junctioning system. It also introduced consumable magic. Also the idea of upgrading equipment rather than getting new equipment (I didn't like this - a combination of the two would be best, I think).

9 kind of blended the graphics of 7 and 8, using chibi style characters in 2D backdrops for cities. It also brought out the idea of magic and skills being used by means of clothing (previously seen in the likes of the Paladin Shield and Cursed Ring in FFVI).

10 gave the whole sphere grid system, which wasn't that bad. It also sort of blends the idea of finding new equipment and remodelling existing equipment, which the focus being on modifying whatever you find to suit your needs at any giving time.

10-2 undoubtedly has the best graphics. It's pretty much just a slightly polished version of 10. It modifies the grid system, and it kinda works. Unfortunately, you have to get over the stigma of playing dressup :P. It also introduces a mission based format, which I don't particularly enjoy. The voices are really annoying sometimes too. I think this game is mostly just eye candy.

11 MMO. nuff said. I havne't played it, and I don't plan to. I've played 1 other MMO which is quite boring. Until everyone that plays is a quality RPer, MMOs are not my cup of tea.

Tactics took the job classes of FF5 to the next level, and brought the series into the strategy genre. An excellent game.

Mystic Quest does not exist :P

As you can see, every game has it's perks. There isn't really a best, just which one is best for you based on what you look for in a game. I'm going to stop typing now, because I need a pee.
