Crashes

I've been trying to lay Fallout New vegas but after an hour or so of play the game crashes with the message "Fallout.exe has stopped working coming up. And when I try again it crashes even sooner. It seems each time I load the game up after the first crash the crashes get sooner and sooner. E.g 1st crash = 1-2hrs, 2nd crash = 30mins, 3rd crash = 20mins, 4th crash = 5mins etc. I get the feeling that the game isn't getting rid of its memory properly so each time I load the game it keeps all of the data from the previous cell and it just becomes too full and crashes. Is there any way to fix this?

this will purge your cell buffers but this may mess up some mods.

http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/52428/?

Also what you describe is most likely caused by other things.

Too many mods

Incompatible mods

both of the above

corrupt save file

Too many companions

The game has horrible memory management.

Keep the load order under 139

use 4gb loader (with NVSE), YUP, MMUE, NVAC (and consider NVEC)

Reduce memory use by compressing stray graphics files (http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/46074/?)

If you are using NMC's textures drop down a level.. For example, I have a very high end system but only use medium.

I have 63 mods installed all using NMM, and another 3 installed manually. I have 4gb loader but I don't know if I installed it correctly. I'm using Windowed Fullscreen, using Fallout_Fullscreen, and copied the files of 4gb loader to the main Fallout NV folder. I'm not sure if it works when I open windowed fullscreen. But I'll make a list of my mods if it helps:

  Reveal hidden contents

The manual install mods are:

Fallout_Fullscreen

nvse_2_beta12

Fallout NV 4gb

Have you looked at temperatures?

Both GPU and video card temperatures too high can cause a crash.

If each crash was in the 1 - 2 hour range I would suspect running out of memory. But the crashes happening sooner and sooner could maybe be you are not allowing it to cool down and are restarting immediately every time.

Look at your video card and processor to see if they are clogged with dirt and the fans are working.
