2) unable to do a virus scan due to crashes and unable to update.

i do have COMODO still installed but some help would be nice i am going to ask for support on there site as well but i find it faster with support on a forum

AVG sends out a lot of false positives, Avira and Avast get those a lot less, though they still capture a buttload of virii.

In case you don't know, false positive means that an Antivirus thinks there's a virus on your system, but it's actually a harmless file you need for something.

I run AVG 8.0 free, and Zone Alarm firewall together and have never had any problems at all, it works brilliantly.

And regarding the false positives, I have only ever had one with AVG, even though I regularly handle a lot of files which are usually picked up as false positives by many virus scanners, including both Avira and Avast, and many professional ones.

AVG free edition is antivirus only, no firewall. But combined with ZoneAlarm, also free, its as good a combination as any commercial paid-for solution.

Its always worked perfectly for me, although most of the websites I visit where I'm likely to get a virus, I tend to do through Wubi anyway, so I don't actually know how many threats there've actually been for it to deal with :P

Well, if you were not running the current version of comodo and could not update (happens sometimes between major editions and betas) then just uninstall comodo and keep the config files. Reboot and install the new version.

Around the time you posted this, Comodo had integrated several of their products into one. The BOClean program is now incorporated and I also had problems with the auto-upgrade to the new version but it continued to obtain virus definition updates. I downloaded the 3.9 version, uninstalled the 3.8 or whatever version it was as well as BOClean, rebooted and installed the 3.9 and it has been working just fine ever since.

I am in the process of testing the CESM tool for managing the deployment of COMODO Antivirus+Firewall+AntiSpyware to all our PCs at work (300+). In running parallel tests with our current Trend Micro solution, it seems to work very well and provides more tools for less money!!!
