Vortex: Incompatible mods

RixAlone

Recommended Posts

me and my friends were trying to play some games and some but when we tried to launch our games it crashed so we tried to see if there were any mods that didn't work as they should do because vortex doesn't give any useful notifications, is there a way to turn on this option or not?

By and large, Vortex has no way of knowing what mods are compatible.

It is Vortex' job to install the mods you select correctly, and in the correct location.

It is your job to decide what mods are compatible. Read the descriptions, and if not clear, ask in the mod support thread.

Vortex does do what it can; it will reflect incompatibility messages from SKSE for example. It does let you set file override order if the mods modify the same files.

There are some confusing terms that get thrown around regarding mods. 'Mod conflict' is not the same thing as 'mod incompatibility.'

'Mod conflict' means two or more mods change the same game files. So, the user must decide which mod's changes will override changes by the other(s). To make it easier to decide which mod overrides, Vortex uses data from LOOT (Load Order Optimization Tool) to provide suggestions as to which conflicting mod to load first. But if LOOT does not have data for the game you are using mods for, then it can't make suggestions. The user has to decide in such cases.

'Mod incompatibility' is a situation where two or more mods cannot work together in the same load order. Mods that are old might become incompatible with a game that has been updated and therefore can't be used with updated mods without causing crashes.

Letting us know which games you are using mods with would help people in this forum to give more specific advice.
