Setting up a new computer

Of course. Install the game on the new machine, run it at least once, so it creates all the appropriate files, then just copy them to a thumb drive, and transfer them to the new machine. Of course, your old saves are going to want all the same mods installed, else they will whine, possibly crash, or maybe not even load.....

Installing Steam somewhere OUTSIDE of the program files directory is also a VERY good plan.

I already have Steam intalled in a separate folder,so I am go to go there.I am going to purchase another m.2 and I have all of my game on a separate M.2.could I just install all of my steam games on the new drive, then move my other games over and let them override? This part is all new to me.Ever time I had to do this before, the older computer had already died.

Depends on how you modded your game. If you manually installed everything, then yeah, just doing a wholesale overright would work. If you used a mod manager though, things get weird, and depending on which one you used, they may get even weirder. :D

Usually it doesn't matter if you copy the saved game files before or after (re-)installing your games.

If you have cloud storage enabled (a lot of modern ones do that ...) you need to do absolutely nothing.

What about all the mods residing on Vortex?

I care about those even more than my save games...

I don't use vortex, or any other mod manager, so I don't know how that works with reinstalling.

If installed by hand, just copy the lot & set them to load in the right order within the game.

If vortex has an option to create a backup, which you can restore on the new machine, you should be fine.

Worst case, you need to reinstall your mods.

& need them you do. To play your saved games, you need the exact same mods to be loaded as when saved.
