CrazyGilbert
13th century italian pizza. Please be at least reasonable when you post! how in any way is it 13th century pizza? if we have recently eaten it than obviously it is not that old and the really old stuff was not nearly the same as italian pizza now. ThetaOrionis01
If I have to have restaurant pizza, I'll go to an Italian restaurant - because there's a chance it might actually be nice. If I really want pizza I'll make it myself, from scratch, starting with flour, yeast and water :P I have a strong dislike of greasy fast food - so I would strongly dispute that Pizza Hut pizza is best - but then there are people who like sausage suppers or burgers.... Give me a salad any day. Suum cuique.

I was recently watching a history of italian pizza on the food network. Many of the same recipies that were used to make the first pizza are being used today by italian cooks. Abramul
In the 13th century, pizza COULD NOT have had tomato sauce, if that counts for anything... Thin & Crispy, or Thick & Tender, crustwise?
Switch
LMAO...whatever you call it, Switch and I like it. I don't need to experience anything, I'm happy with what I have. And I'm sure Switch is too... (...right, Switch?)<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Yep. :P I don't care what Peregrine says, I've had numerous frozen pizzas, none of them even begin to scratch what you can get at Pizza Hut. It tastes 10x better, how can anyone call it cardboard? Do you just have cr@p service where you are, Peregrine? O.o I can't deny it's greasy but it tastes amazing. I've seen Italian pizza advertised before, called "Ristorante" I think. It didn't look nice to me. Pathetically thin crust, and cheese. And maybe some tomato. Woop de doo. Malchik
I used to consume pizzas (Domino's are the nearest but we have five or six that deliver). If I crawl in at 11.20 pm after a full day's work and a gruelling 3 hour rehearsal the last thing I can be bothered to do is cook! But lately I've taken to eat the other things the pizza delivery shops sell (chicken, potatoes etc.). I know it isn't good for me but there you go! When I do have time to cook I favour pasta or rice with red beans, pesto, chilli and tuna (not necessarily all together) and that kind of thing. I often get fed in the office where the cook is a vegetable. (Actually I think she said vegetarian but I'm not sure there's a difference!) BTW the first time I went to a pizza place in the US - Chicago Pizza House in central Annapolis Maryland IIRC - I order a large pizza for myself. It was at least twice the size of what they call large in the UK! I never ordered a pizza in the US again.
Argoren
Never got my hands on any real American pizza - at least not one made in the US and those you can find here, well the taste was acceptable, though I’d rather call it ‘Flammkuchen’ (something like a non-sweet yeast cake). But Pizza Hut – that was definitely one of my worst food-experiences EVER! Please tell me what was that thing, looking like a pink (and I mean PINK) salami, with a plastic consistency and no taste at all (maybe except salty). The yellow stuff on top was probably meant to be cheese, but why did it behave like heated bubble-gum?! Disgusting. :X Italian pizza is best. Not every Italian pizza of course, depending on the cook, like always. But if you know where to go – or maybe know a pizza-cook personally… Btw these food-concerning threads seem to become quite popular, maybe somebody should make a new section “Kitchen Corner”?! :laugh2:
Maquissar
As with the thread about the best music band, I guess that even pizza is purely a matter of taste, and no "objective" answer can be given. Thus said, I prefer, obviously, Italian pizza. You need, however, to distinguish between Italian pizza in Italy, and what they sell you when you ask for Italian pizza abroad. I am currently in France, and I still haven't been able to find a decent pizza. Maybe you have tried crisps that claim that they have a "pizza" flavour. Everyone in Italy wondered why it was called pizza flavour, since it bore no obvious resemblance to the original product: now I found out! It's the taste of pizza in France! :) ...anyway, even though other kinds of pizzas may be enjoyable, if you really want to experience the REAL italian pizza go to Italy. Preferably to Naples. By the way, before making statements, please check your sources. The "Italian" pizza was NOT around in the 13th century. I am sure Dante would have mentioned it... but that's not the point ;) Flat rounds of baked dough with things on top of them were already eaten by the ancient Greeks and the Persians. Real Italian pizza began to become popular at the end of the 18th century I guess, and the first PIZZA MARGHERITA, the most popular type - at least in Italy - was born in 1889, and owes its name to Queen Margherita, to whom it was dedicated. O well. Of course there is no objective answer to what pizza is better, thats why this is a debate. ;)
