exanimis
My neighbor came over today, he's 14 and he had an idea that I like. I like it enough to start on it. I will be building an Imperial City zoo. It will be placed just outside of the IC. The zoo will contain both interior and exterior cells. The interior cells will be tanks and cages while the exterior cells will have walls and separator pools much like a modern zoo. Interior creatures will be in cages and will be creatures like WolvesMudcrabsSlaughterfishas well as others to be added later Exterior creatures will be held in pins or islands surrounded by motes. They will be ClanfearsBears DaedrothsOgres TrollsGoblins Each cell or cage will represent the type of environment that the player will find these creatures in.As you walk between cages you will interact with tamed deer. The player will be able to enter the zoo at any time during the game and at any level. You will be able to see the type of creatures that you will be encountering later in the game and learn a little about them. I think that this mod would be the perfect place for the player to purchase a bestiary, such as the one requested by archer9 in This thread. If you like this idea and would like to see it come into existence, please post your ideas and suggestions here in this thread. List the creatures you think would be good to have in interior cages or exterior islands.List information on the bestiary here or in archer9's thread.List items that you think would be sold to visitors to the zoo List the type of people who would work in the zoo this isn't going to be a complicated mod. It will use existing Oblivion meshes and textures and shouldn't take very long to build and set up. This mod will give me a break from all the stuff that has been aggravating the mess out of me, things like outdated tutorials. So, what do you think? Is this a good idea or a complete waste of time? I'd like to know your opinion.
Pronam
Wow, why has nobody done this before. I think anyone would want to have it, so please go ahead! This reminded me of a quest in Morrowind, where you had to let someone examine a creature..Maybe that could be the case for the bestiary? That you would have to find each animal and must be near it for a couple of seconds, before you'll have some info...Whether the need of invisibility or not... Creatures:-Not letting it becoming too big, but it would be wonderful if the goblins had a little camp outside as a replacement of their environment.-I would love to see some mountain lions in a rocky environment too. Shop:-It would be perfect if small figurines of the animals could be sold..Maybe like the small version of the statue? I'm referring to the one of Bruma of course, using those from the DLC would be illegal...... -Or posters, maybe you could buy a scroll including all info on an animal, with a picture of the creature on top. It could be bought after the info is gathered, of course... -Maybe special items with an animal drawing on them, like cups, plates etc..? Just trowing some ideas :). But I think they are all doable...If you need any help (especially on the shop ideas.) just ask...I love to see this one becoming live. Good Luck! apocalypse1138
It's a wonderful idea, and like I said on the beastary thread, I could test for you if you need that to be done.
Netwit2008
What a kewl idea! This would be a great mod to have. I like the idea of also having vendor kiosks where you could buy not only souvenirs, but maybe, mead, beer, etc. You could have one selling snacks, e.g. fruit & cheese. Maybe a finer dining area that sold the illusive Shepherd's Pie. If you're really feeling adding new things, make up a few snacks, like a place to buy crab cakes, beef sandwiches, candy apples or popped corn. You could have a games section where folks could try their hand at games, like the shell player in Mournhold/Morrowind. Or throwing weapons at targets, bobbing for apples, marksman challenges, etc. Prizes could be soul stones or rare jewelry items, even some type of totem or minor artifact. This is an idea that has tons of possibilities. Be nice to see an aquarium with clams, perhaps a game of chance choosing one that may or may not yield a pearl. The aquarium could also have new types of fish besides slaughterfish. Show rare animals like the aquatic dreugh from MW, vs. the Land Dreugh in OB. Have an aviary with butterflies and those birds we're always hearing, but never see. You could have a garden maze with topiary and lots of beautiful flowers. Dwemer bots or centurions could give rides, as could horses or even bring in the silt strider. Gazebos for sitting and talking, taking a break or eating your snacks would be nice. A fireworks show at 9 pm every nite would be a definite crowd pleaser  If you need any more ideas or suggestions, I'd be happy to oblige. I'm a good fiction writer, just haven't learned to mod yet, so I wouldn't be able to help with construction, but with the creative stuff I might be useful, lol Good luck with this, you definitely have a winner with this idea. It has superb potential!
alex2avs
Great idea indeed. I agree with VicIce and I'll extend the idea a little. Wolves , deers and other normal (and by normal i refer to creatures that exists in real life too ) should be in exterior cells that imitate their natural environment . I think it would be nice if there would be an interior cell , like a museum with showcases. Inside them there could be real-size creatures in their natural env. but static( can be done with some work in Blender , if you want to avoid scripting) ... wait...it's not a zoo anymore  Inside :aquariums with fishes (I saw some resources around [TesNexus,ORE]) snakes (saw some models around) , and spiders  .A cave entrance that leads to a dungeon full of different bats might be nice ;). @Netwit : some great ideas there ;) @Exanimis : If you want , I can do some retexture and CS placing. maybe some scripting and mesh editing in blender as well. rakkar
I don't think you should include goblins or ogres, since they're kinda sentientbut how about undead or daedra? "and in this silver cage to your left you can see a real wraith..." yeah, I knkow daedra and undead are also kinda sentient, but it's different, because they already are summoned the whole time

Triforce1
I understand your not wanting to get too into this, but you could create an entire new guild to run the place. Biologist's Guild, or some such. Maybe the zoo is a little run down in the beginning, but you join the guild and collect specimens for them. After awhile, and lots of animal collecting, people from the major cities start to come to the zoo on a regular basis. Maybe you could "charge admissions", and once the player becomes Head Biologist he / she can receive a cut. Dunno, just spouting ideas. I think it's a great idea.
