Yesterday Vortex worked perfectly. today I keep getting the same error saying:

An unexpected error occurred while vortex was loading extension

The specified module could not be found. \\?\C:\Program Files\Black Tree Gaming Ltd\Vortex\resources\app.asar.unpacked\bundledPlugins\gamebryo-plugin-management\node-loot.node

This is often caused by a bad installation of the app a security app interfering with Vortex or a problem with the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable installed on your PC. To solve this issue try the following

-Wait a moment and try starting Vortex again

-Reinstall Vortex from the Nexus website

-Install the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable

-Disable antivirus or other security apps that might interfere and install Vortex again

I don't know how to fix it. I have reinstalled vortex a couple times relaunched dozens installed every version of visual c++ I can think of and I don't have any antivirus managing vortex folders. I've checked through the windows defender twice to make sure and I followed the guide posted to make sure that what I was doing was correct. I have no clue what to do at this point. It was working now it is not and I have not a clue why

I have the same problem. I reinstalled, I tried older versions that kept updating to the latest whenever I closed vortex, without my consent. It's annoying and wont let me mod any game through vortex as the error pops up every time. Maybe the latest update broke it? If you find a fix please let me know.

Go to Vortex settings and select "No automatic updates."

I have tried all the possible routes and am still getting this error. If I were to disable security, what would I be looking for to allow Vortex into its proper file? I have tried disabling general anti-virus settings and everything else...it worked fine a while ago, I don't understand how it broke.

The error I'm receiving is identical to the original posting, except instead of "An unexpected error occurred while vortex was loading extension", mine says  "An unexpected error occurred while vortex was initialising". It isn't starting.

I've tried updating the C++ but that didn't solve the issue. I'm reluctant to re-install, as I don't want to have to tweak all my mods again...

There's a pinned solution for the above on the forum, but it doesn't address this issue.

The solution is just to re-install the latest version of Vortex. It overwrites the existing install and maintains your mods. Too easy.
