Ads are getting out of hand

Hi there,

I remember when a while back there was an announcement on this website, asking us users to turn off their adblocks, because this website needs to make money to at least cover parts of the surely horrendous costs (and because otherwise, download speeds would be cut down severely). I fully understand this. For websites like this one, I gladly turn off my adblock (if the ads are within reason), to give at least some minimal support. But: The announcement also said that the ads would be small one's on the side which would be relevant to mods, video games or similar things and above all, would not be too obtrusive. And now I have to ask myself... what has happened to that promise? At first, there were just tons of ads for weird erotic Asian RPGs and sites offering to buy currency for any MMORPG (I find both a little too much already) but now there are even videos playing at full sound, and sometimes they can't be turned off until after about 30seconds of a different commercial video. There's commercial videos inside other commercial videos. This is just too much. I know this is probably Google's fault (I'm guessing they're placing the ads), but please get it sorted out. Video ads that can't be closed or stopped are outrageously unacceptable. So until this problem has been solved, I feel forced to use my adblock again. The jokingly low download speeds are the lesser evil, sorry.

 

Anyway, I know keeping the Nexus running must be horribly expensive and means a lot of work and I'm truly grateful for your efforts. Right now, there is no alternative when it comes to modding. So please, once this problem has been addressed, let me know and I'll gladly turn my adblock off again.

Issue with the ads aside, where is this article where I made this "promise", because I surely wouldn't have made a promise I couldn't keep 100% as I do not have direct control of the Nexus ad-inventory; it's passed through a third-party.

 

Alternatively going ad free for life on all the Nexus sites costs £1.29, or around $2. That's not a month, that's forever.

Personally I don't have any problem with the ads as I know in a trivial small way, they help pay the bills. BUT, and you knew that was coming lol, SOME of the ads I have seen in that little square box are completely over the top for a site that has many young teens and even some children downloading mods. One particular add that comes to mind was an add for breast enhancement cream. I mean, come on, do we really need to be seeing something like that on a gaming site? Yes I know the adds are handled by a third party, but can't they filter stuff like that out?

I have to agree.. I was just browsing through,, to see if anything has come up for the terrible DA:Inquisition, and i jumped out of my chair to a Juicy Fruit, or Starburst commercial, or something.. Ok, fine.. Nbd.. But in the next 2 mins, it replayed abuot 5 times.. Its really annoying.. I was going through all my tabs trying to find where this damn thing was coming from! I could deal with it, if the sound wasnt so intrusive!

 

Didnt realize a small donation cleared it up however.. Good to know :)
