HagaryMJW
I was hoping someone might have some ideas on how I can resolve my problem as I was just about to complete Act 1. I've been playing with a handful of mods using Vortex, mainly things like 5espells, a couple of cosmetics, and chooseyourstats.. Things proceeded great until I saw patch 1 come through and I got too smart for my own good and tried updating my mods.. I saw one mod fixer (still on Nexus Mods) that said it was for Patch 1 so I tried that, and it said to use BG3 mod manager so I loaded that up. Not sure if that caused a conflict between that and Vortex or what, but if I disable them all then the game warns that some mods like 5espells are no longer available and it crashed. Try enabling that mod and mod fixer - still crashes. If I load a new game it warns of something about the data not being right and says it is going to proceed with the default story or something, and then it does launch with me at the beginning in the nautiloid. If anyone can help me set this straight, or point me where the best place is to get some experienced help on this, I'd appreciate it.

JeffreyTheRed
I am having a similar issue. I can tell you one thing about your issue first. You should only have one of the 'fixer' mods, I'm pretty sure. Whichever one is most relevant to the version of the game you are currently playing. My situation, I am playing the game with a number of mods. Nothing too outlandish. The biggest ones are 5e spells, CYS (which I only use to change stats to reflect ability scores I rolled for my PC and party members), and Hexblade. Everything was working just fine. Even after Patch 1 came out. Suddenly, just now I updated the Hexblade and 5e spells mod and when I try to start the game it crashes before I can even click on continue. When the game reloads I have to go through the terms and gamma setting again. When I get back to the menu and select continue, the game tells me that such and such mods have been disabled and asks if I want to continue without them. None of the mods it says were disabled were the ones I just updated. Plus, Vortex still shows that all my mods are still enabled. What's going on? So... the game is telling me mods a, b, c, etc are now disabled and asking if I want to continue without them. Vortex is telling me they are still enabled. What happens to my game if I continue without them? Will my stats revert? Will items disappear? How much could it screw up my game? If it will screw it up a lot, how do I re-enable them when the game tells me they are disabled by vortex tells me they are enabled? HOW DO I FIX THIS?? HagaryMJW
Thanks for the report. I just posted another message in the Vortex general forum asking why no one seems to give a rip about any of this. There's no way I am going to get into mods going forward if I'm rolling the dice on every bloody update with no hope for support. This is just crazy. showler
From the sounds of things, the game developers added a Mod Fixer to the first big patch and then ripped it back out with a stealth patch. That's on them. How do you expect Vortex to deal with that level of idiocy from the developers of the game?

That's on them. How do you expect Vortex to deal with that level of idiocy from the developers of the game? That's a fair question, I suppose. Well, for starters I'd highlight this as a "special issue" that may have been created by other parties, but one that is definitely causing serious user experience issues for many, many users. I'd say we will help - maybe a pinned thread with updates, megathread, subforum, whatever. I'd list the common solves. I'd provide specific steps that can be used to focus in on what is causing the issue, maybe even offer a place for folks to post some sort of logs so that some kind souls could try to assist if they saw fit. I am not asking to be spoon-fed, and most all I've seen in my boat here are trying to help themselves as well. I have tried to find a guide to help narrow down what's going on, but I've found nothing that is clear, consistent, and current. I mean, here is a shortlist of potential causes, but I have no real idea how to troubleshoot in a way that narrows it down without playing whack a mole by causing more issues as I try random fixes:BG3 updateMod Fixer version/variation confusionLeftover filesA specific modLoad order Any help along these lines would turn this around pretty quickly, I think. showler
But if it is not an issue with Vortex, but rather with the game, specific mods, or the Mod Fixer here on Nexus, or even some combination of those things then you need to seek support in those places. This is a Vortex support forum that helps with problems with Vortex. You can try the BG3 forums here on the Nexus forums. You can try the comments thread on the Mod Fixer page. You can try the official Larian forums. You can try the comments for the mods that aren't working correctly now. From what I've read this might have messed things up enough that restarting the game might be needed. But I do not see how it is a Vortex issue. HagaryMJW
I've been trying the BG3 forum here, to be sure. No help there whatsoever. I guess my only real concern about Vortex per se is that there are reports of it not going a great job with file handling (vs things like BG3MM) and some questions about load order. Thanks for weighing in. Looks like I'll be wiping and going the mod-free way for at least the near future.
showler
Unfortunately, not everything that gets messed up can be recovered.
HagaryMJW
I know, but surely most things can be fixed with a collaborative approach effectively directing group efforts and observations.
