Dagoth Ur

I am in Dagoth Ur's citadel and have found the chamber where DU is waiting for me, but I could not find the heart that he is supposed to be connected to. I went back over the plan to defeat DU which didnt really help, however I noticed something else I missed.

I've got Keening and Sunder with me but in re-reading the plan I realized that I neglected to dispatch the 7 (I think) ash vampires. Can I go ahead and try to defeat DU anyway, or do I need to go take care of his ash vampires first?

I tried fighting him once and got easily annihilated, so I'm guessing maybe I should have killed his vampires first. But since I'm there already, i'd rather just go ahead take care of Ur if that's even possible. So, can I do it or do I need to back up and take out his ash vampires first?

Actually, defeating the Ash Vampires only weaken Dagoth Ur, but it is reccomended to do this, although it isnt required. To defeat him you must first fight him in the cave and then he will disappear. Go into the next room where you will see a giant creature being built. You must run across the bridge and strike the creatures heart with Sunder and Keening. Then you should attack Dagoth Ur and if your strong enough, you should be able to beat him.

thanks for the help so far guys! I've destroyed Lorkan's Heart with Sunder and Keening. And now I can't find Dagoth Ur anywhere in the cavern. According to my journal he has been destroyed, but you guys are saying I still need to kill him after destroying Lorkan's Heart? I keep hearing the attack music as I wander around the cavern as if someone or thing nearby was harboring ill will towards me. But I don't see him anywhere. Any suggestions?

You kill him first in the room outside the heart chamber. I assume you have done that? If not I am not sure what has happened. He may have fallen into the lava. Does he walk on it? Get a constant effect levitate and check this out. If not - sounds like a reload to me!

Erm, what's all this stuff about fighting Dagoth Ur?

In my experience, you fight him and make him disappear in the first room. Then run past him to the heart in the second room, destroy it, he'll follow you and try to kill you. Then you run back across the bridge, and the bridge will fall, causing him to drop into the lava, killing him. The end. The combat music sometimes continues but that's just a glitch. :P Return to the previous room for a chat with Azura.

I'm pretty sure that fighting him head on even after the heart is destroyed is futile...

It's pretty possible he fall off the bridge and is in the lava. He has a fire shield on so im pretty sure it doesnt hurt him. That might be why you still hear the battle music but cant see him. It's happened to me a couple times when ive fought him.

Actually, lava doesn't do fire damage. IIRC, it uses "modhealth -20", so no resistances affect it. (Scratch that. Here's the script)

begin lava

if ( menumode == 1 )

return

endif

if ( CellChanged == 0 )

if ( GetSoundPlaying "lava layer" == 0 )

PlayLoopSound3DVP "lava layer", 1.0, 1.0

endif

endif

HurtStandingActor, 20.0 ;20 pts of damage a sec

end lava

I don't remember for sure, but my impression is that Dagoth Ur is destroyed automatically when the Heart disintegrates. So you can beat him if you want but I don't think it's required if you completely destroy the heart (thus triggering the cut scene of the destruction in the chamber).

You can't actually beat Dagoth's second appearance - I've tried, once you get him down to 4/5ths HP it won't go down anymore, no matter how much insane damage you cause to him (did this with a cheat character, blasting him with like 1000 damage per second spells).

When he falls into the lava he dies, I'm sure of it... I've never fought him head on all the times I've completed the game, and every time I've destroyed the heart and ran back across the bridge, the bridge breaks underneath him, he falls into the lava, the giant statue collapses and I can go and see Azura. Well, not every time, one time it glitched and the statue wouldn't fall but I did it again and it worked. :P
