Aeskuro
Sorry if this is a repeated topic but even vanilla fallout 4 on high settings, 1440p, I only manage around 40fps in downtown Boston no matter if its vanilla or heavily modded it's always the same and I haven't found a solution yet. My pc specs are Ryzen 9 5950x, RTX 4080, 32gbs ram. Is this normal for everyone or is something wrong that I'm doing, I'm literally seeing no difference from when I was using my 2070 super. romalight
You have a great PC, but Fallout 4 made by a poor game engine, so it not matter what computer someone have. i have a 3080 ti with 12 gb ram and also other good PC parts, and many times i see FPS drop and CTD from time to time. Maybe Fallout 5, be a better game.
xrayy
my guess - you screwed up some ini settings or you extensively murdered your performance by scrapping many precombined static objects in the exterior or using too many wrong, performance hungry mods and additionally it uses the same badly optimized game engine even starfield uses - but it is not that bad - even my 4080 uhd setup runs with pretty stable 60 fps or better. some fps drop may occur during cell changes. that is a known engine limitation with demanding ini settings. check this - maybe you find something helpful
zcul
Ancient thread, I know, anyway, I had the same issue – poor fps (between 20 and 40) with an I9, 64 GB ram and a 4090 – playing on Win 11 and a HDR monitor (1440) … This worked on my end: Win 11 Settings, Games, Graphics, Fallout 4 options: Select/tick „do not use auto hdr“. Since then consistent frame rate (60 fps) everywhere in the game.

To fix that you need the load accelerator mod.
zcul
Hi, thank you for your response - most informative Yep, indeed I have installed the game on an SSD. I have also installed this fine load accelerator that (on my end) immensly decreases loading times when fast travelling or entering another „cell“. Nonetheless, although running the said mod I experienced those fps drops and stuttering everywhere in the game until I set the Win graphic options for FO 4 to „not use auto hdr“. 363rdChemicalCompany
Anyone have a link to the load accelerator mentioned here? My game runs ok but not 100% perfect (i9 10900kf overclocked, SSD, 64GB RAM, RTX 4070, win 11)
Aen9ine
It's probably Load Accelerator. It still works, but you should already be using High FPS Physics Fix which also unlocks framerate during loading screens. I haven't used LA for a while. MY game doesnt run bad but there is always room for improvement I think so O look around. I will upgrade my hardare soon. I was going to get the i9 14900KF when it came out but reviews call it a very incremental improvement over 13900KF and it would be a new MB that next gen will be useless so I havent pulled the trigger
Aen9ine
I'd wait for next gen Intel or go AM5 which is supposed to have long-term support. I was pretty disappointed by Intel 14th gen. As for OP… I recommend following the Midnight Ride as a baseline for modding, it should perform better than vanilla. Also Fo4 has several fps-killer settings like Godrays and weapon debris you can lower or disable. And installing PRP (or at least the old Boston FPS Fix) is usually required for good framerate around downtown Boston. The area has always been known for performing terribly.
