The New and "Improved" Compass

Yeah. thought that to, sounds to easy with the compass, It will show everything you need to do. Suits games for 5 years olds....

Does nobody even bother reading the entire quotes anymore? You don't get the compass for everything, just the destinations you already know how to find (in-character). This doesn't apply to "find the hidden tomb" type quests. All this does is save you from having to consult the map every few seconds to see if you're going the right way in the featureless wilderness. Which, if Oblivion has Morrowind's short view distance, is a very nice feature.

But it does mark out points of interest in the wilderness for you. That's the bit I'm not sure I like... being able to hunt about for tombs, ruins etc in Morrowind was kind of fun.

Yes, and I imagine it does so only when you get close enough that your character would've seen it. It was really frustrating in Morrowind running around in circles looking for some random tomb because the enterance was behind an object or two.

Besides, Morrowind does this already. All those tombs/ruins/etc show up on your map. The only difference is now you can see them without having to constantly pause the game and open the map.

I dont mind the idea as long as the point on the map shows up when and only when you are in view distance of it. By view distance, I mean even if it was behind an object or two. Personally, I find that Morrowind gets too easy too fast. By time you are level 20, more than likely, you can kill just about any creature and most baddies. I like a good challenge as long as if you need an escape route (big exclamation point over what you are looking for) it is an option to use it, not a requirment. Basically, I think that what most people are getting at is the fact that they dont always want to know everything. The dont want to know what people have jobs for them and exactly where the job is even before you get there.

The way i figure, it would be good if it was like the compass in WoW(world of warcraft) where they tell you how to get there in the quest, but the compass doesnt direct you there. Once you get in Proximity a golden dott would appear that way you dont spend a long time looking for an exact spot. that is how it should be, if it isnt allready.

currently in morrowind, when you get a quest from, for instance caius cosades you get a

journal entry marking down the directions given by caius ...this on the other hand will be as if caius took your maps and took out his trusty quill and put a dot where the tomb or place was... think ...you wont have to be just given general directions any more like "leave balmora cross the river and head north, the tomb is east of caldera"

though we can find things with these instructions you have to look over at least 4 cells to find it when all caius had to do is say " give me your map... takes your map... writes on it... there ... now go to caldera and go east to the point I marked on your map and clear the telvani necromancers out of the tomb ... before the tribunal get there and stake them..."

now which one is better you decide...

Im sorry if this is thread necromancy but my post fits under the topic and I didnt want to make a new one.

Well, I managed to sneak into Bethesda's office while they where on lunch break and luckily for me all the computers were powered on. So I started up oblivion and took some quick screenshots of this new innovative feature in-game and sent them to my email!

Here it is! The first screenshot of the long awaited compass!

Hahaha :D

No need to worry about the in-game compass, according to recent info you can select an old quest and it'll give you directions to that, and not the quest you're currently on. So you can find the location yourself if you like. And presumably if you select an old quest without directions it'll get rid of the compass arrow altogether.
